I've sent the below to Crow but in general I just wanted as much help as I can from what I can see in this community is in abundance and full of lovely people all loving the LIZARDSSS.

Here is my PM to Crow -

    Hi buddy,

Sorry to inbox you personally but I think seeing some of your threads and posts I thought you'd be someone who could easily help.

I've gone through your starter box set thread about how to get the most out of it but I was wondering what mainly are the easiest bits to do, what do you think is the best for a proper beginner like me ..I mean not been in the hobby for a good 12/13 years and what you think is the best start I can make with the box set, painting tips etc.

I literally own at the moment the box set and that's it - I've got some lord of things stuff but there gonna be sold hopefully to give me more budget for joining age of sigmar :)

Sorry to bother you with such broad questions but just wanted to ask - I can always make a forum as well so not all the pressure is on you :)

Cant wait to hear and take on all your advice!

    ALL HAIL SOTEK

Start with any of the smaller models you have in the box. I believe its Sauruses. Use them to experiment and get your army color scheme as well as skill up. Don't be afraid to f..k up, and have fun with that ;)

We have also a very nice tutorial section which I recommend to explore if you already painted miniatures before: http://www.lustria-online.com/forums/painting-and-converting-tutorials/

Always start small and work on one technique at a time, for your first model practice drybrushing then as you become confident and adept at that try layering etc etc.

Use the best brushes you can afford, not too small size 2 is about right for base coats and layers, size 1 for faces etc, size 0 for detail but not yet, don't paint eyes etc just leave them for now and go back later.

Remember less is more at the start, you can always add details later but you can't take them away at the start.

Work within a set amount of colours as a general rule I stick to 5 colours, varying shades of each works really well, using lots of colours is hard to pull off at the start, save that for details like feathers etc.

Use a main colour with a nice complementary colour along side it, use contrasting colour as a spot colour, shields are perfect for this.

Don't be scared to F.k.up that's how we learn.

well as far as my development was 10 years ago in my LOTR warhammer days, I was around the dry brushing stage and was only starting small amounts of highlighting so definitely going to start off with dry brushing first!

Silly question but is layering like adding a different shade of the same colour but in specific parts like highlighting?

    - Regarding brushing are these numbered brushes available in GW or is that a generic size chart?

    - For colours I was thinking like a darkish green/swampy colour with like orange details for the crest etc, a pale underbelly skin colour and then gold details for the weapons/accessories stuff ! so is your colour rule 5 per item or area or 5 per model?

and im already prepared for messing up haha, going to use a few or maybe half the saurus from my SC box to test and experiment with and then the other half will be proper and topped up with another SC box when I get round to buying another as I'd love a carno and a trog :)

Once again appreciate the massive support and tips!

Welcome! Things have changed a bit since you were last in. In particular, the GW paint range and styles have completely changed. One thing to look at is if the Contrast paints might fit your needs.

Good luck in your painting endeavors, I would definitely say watch some tutorials on youtube if you haven't already, and just go at it! Practice will help, even if it is a bit rough at the start. Learn something every time you paint a new unit!

Oooh that is a great looking reprint! Hope there is a "change colors of your factions" DLC someday, but until then mods are great!
