What if I want differentiated but multiple units?

I think they are over-designed, but that they fit the great necromancers twisted vision of elite skeletons

Those two offer you quite a bit of variety and you can always do some light conversions if you want more.

Fair enough, to each their own. If you like them, buy them and enjoy them. Personally, I wouldn't let them within 100 yards of my beloved Tomb Kings.

Yeah! Looks like they didn't know where to stop with the neck. Maybe the modeller just for a few minutes thought it was a llama or a giraffe

That looks so much better than the official faces...

As for the cats, actual cats can have massivly long necks. And it's used in quite a lot of art, even historical art. Fairly certain there's even some bastet statues that have fairly long necks.

Interesting that the regular GW Skeleton heads do fit on the Ossiarch bodies. However a simple head swap isn’t enough to make them Egyptian - GW gave the models too much of the End Times aesthetic at face value. I was personally thinking that they would make good Tomb Guard if they were given Necron heads as war helmets, with Egyptian headdresses and collars greenstuffed on in the style of the previous Tomb Guard models. Essentially Fantasy versions of Lychguard.

Definitely much better with a regular skull, at least in my view.
I might even build some one day when I am through my backlog (Ok, that might mean never....)

Just looked at the bonepeople's stats and well, most of that seems horrificly powerfull. The amount of healing, high saves, high wound counts, quite a decent chunk of mortal wounds rend & extra attacks. And several units that have unique effects that basicly guarantee they're going to be usefull even if overcosted, like the catapult being both a character sniper & decimating hordes.

There's 1 interesting spell in there though, one of their heroes has a spell where he can choose between using it as a shortranged AoE or as an psuedo arcane bolt. Which I do like. Fleshes out magic just a tiny bit without immeadiatly being overpowered.

From a mechanics point of view I do like the way that the Mortek Crawler’s Cursed Stele attack gets better with more damage but can only be used once - it’s a very interesting dilemma as whether to risk it - but given the other “once a battle” ability doesn’t and how ridiculous the base is anyway I agree that it probably can’t quite be called balanced!

you could probably run over your own guy with a endless spell to get the damage without indagering it

Just taking a moment here to appreciate that - if the StD Battletome is released this year, which I assume - GW released a full dozen Battletomes for Age of Sigmar within one year.

That's twice the average since AoS release in 2015 (before 2019 the average was 6 per year, with a maximum of 8 in 2016).

As far as I can see that number of "army book" releases for any Warhammer product was surpassed only once, by Codex releases for 40k in 2018 (13 releases).

Side note: the total number of GW major book releases per year seems to have reached 20 or so, which includes things like General's Handbooks and boxed games.

In years with more AoS releases there are fewer 40k releases and vice versa. This year was an AoS year, with only 5 major releases for 40k and 13 for AoS.
(The number for AoS includes the GHB. The rest are board games and the like).

Doesn't 40K win this year as well thanks to their bazillion chapter supplements?

If you count the small stuff (I assume chapter supplements are smaller than a Codex or AoS Battletome, I don't really have an idea about 40k) then 40k will probably always win.

However those are probably also a lot easier to produce, so I focussed on the major books and compared those.

This makes me wonder if AoS ever will get Battletome supplements for some of it's factions.

It's a bit smaller, but not so much as to count as "small" I think. Not sure though.

That would be terrible. Just another book/source that a player needs to access in order to play the game. Too many rules, spread out over too many places.
