I had my second game of aos with my friend today, being honest, kroak seemed to single handedly crush his entire army. I got a lucky cast of 12 on my comet and some good rolls on celestial deliverance(s) in one turn kroak churned out something absurd like 25-30 mortal wounds! Was it dumb luck on my behalf or is this a bad matchup for my friend? The map wide dispel shut down any plans he tried to formulate whilst I dominated on my turns. We're both new players so we definitely are not playing optimally
kroak soft counters tzeench if they have a lord of change as even with +2 to dispel he can get a bunch of spells off. kroak will hard counter a lot of magic thats kinda his job but nagash DoZ and LRL can work around him just like we can work around them
Although a lot depends on play experience, it does feel like a big uphill battle for tzeentch. It only takes one lucky round and the 3 damage deliverances *can* wipe the board of Heroes... but they shouldn’t let us set that up
One thing you can do with kroak is get an easy +3 to cast, unbind, and dispell. Being slann that means he can unbind anywhere which would be a pain in the rear for Tzeentch. This would be the astrolith + asterism combo, and for extra fun balewind vortex.
Yeah Kroak will wreck especially Chaos Daemon units that dont respect the 22" threat range. I feel like the outcome would be different if he played around that threat range or largely had big blocks of Pink Horrors.
the astrolith only gives +1 to cast not to unbind. if you want +3 to unbind you need a second slann to use the +1 cast/unbind spell on him
oh rip. yeah a second slann could work for that then, bit of a waste for a spell but more unbinds could be agonizing to tzeentch
Thanks for all the feedback guys! We're pretty casual with how we've played so far. We did conclude at the end of our game that he positioned poorly because he lost 3 heroes in a single turn to kroak. So far we've played two games where I've used a coalesced army consisting of lots of saurus warrior list with oldbloods on carnos and a starborne army with kroak, temple guard and saurus warriors. Is Seraphon easy to play and hard to master? I feel like I can just throw Saurus warrior blocks into him and just mow him down without him being able to do much damage in return. (This probably comes back to us being total noobs at AoS )
Tzeentch to my understanding is actually not that strong. unless you play the "competitive build" (basically mass Pink Horrors, Gaunt Summoner to spawn more etc.) which is super obnoxious and hard to deal with. Many of the other units are just not that good, so wouldnt surprise me that your Saurus mow things down. The competitive playstyle is basically to fill the table with tons of models that your opponent is left fighting for many turns meanwhile the Tzeentch player racks up a ton of victory points. Do you guys even play with objectives, or is it just all-out kill? Nothing wrong with it, but it significantly changes the game and balance between armies.
Seraphon's difficulty varies on the army type, although all of them have subtleties. I would say starborne dracothion's tail is the most difficult to master, and thunder lizard might be the easiest to learn. With enough practice it wont be too hard to master the core concepts of seraphon and how we play.
Yeah tzeentch units are squishy as hell if you can make it through the barrage of ranged attacks and start hitting Them they die rather quickly. Horrors are the only "exception" though that's more due to Them having a massieve amount of bodies and not cuz theyre actually sturdy. If hé doesn't bring any horrors at all then its defibitly easy to mow Them down. provided you manage to get in range yourself before the flamers and whatnot set you on fire.
