hello all im in a quandry

i want to paint my lizardman army as ghosts from the city of tlax
i want to use purples but am finding it hard to get a ghost look
i found an army of the dead stage by stage on gw site but it uses greens i tried swapping the colour but doesnt seem right ive tried the green and it does look ghosty but to fit my fluff i want purple ghosts :)
it means i can explain the wings on my slaan.

also if i paint my entire army all the same ghost colour will it look just bleh?? hmm i really like the idea just not sure how to execute it

any help welcome ill post pics soon im testing on skinks at the minute

Sounds awesome :D Everyone on here is so creative! first the guy making the lustrian expedition themed empire army and now an army of Ghostly Lizzies. I dont have any experiance with such painting techniques so I'm afraid I am of no help though, But I can't wait to see them!

There's an old post about a guy who tried out a Tlax army that I thought looked pretty sweet. It uses a fantastic gray to white build up then *bam* the wash finishes it.

Unfortunately he never posted the finished army. I think if you keep the inorganic stuff a "real" color (weapons, metal, stone, etc) it would help with the look, but maybe it might seem awkward.

Good luck-I've painted my way through BoSP and a Dark Elf battalion and the Lizardmen (ironically the first thing i bought) have been giving me fits. At this point I'm going to have an army of test models.

What I would do is basecoat everything with Hormagaunt Purple, then highlight with a 1:1 mix of Hormagaunt Purple and Codex Gray, and then gradually work in more Codex Gray through susbequent highlights, and eventually finish with a very light drybrush of Fortress Gray.

cheers all for the help all very good ideas :)
day off friday so ill get to painting then
im not sure sure if i want the whole model the same colour or the weapons and details another it would seem to fit more the model one colour but with big models like the steg it probably wont look as good.

also im thinking they were fighting demons when they died so maybe their ghosts are tainted by the demons aura that way i could have diffrent colour ghosts.

anything fighty so saurus, krox etc maybe red they would be fighting khorne
skinks green fighting nurgles plauge reminds them of skaven
hmm i dont really want pink ghosts though

anyway ill paint friday and take some pics and post see how it goes

    cheers all

There was a Ghoast HE army in WD 284 or 285. It was a VC srmy using converted HE models. The colours were REALLY good. Maybe you can try to check it out.

Aren't you refering to the old Blood Dragons army that was converted to be all HE Skeletons?
Don't remember what WD it was in, but it was definately before the 290's!

    Didn't have many ghosts though!

Purple sounds a bit too physcadelic to me!
    I prefer the greeny ghosts.

Sweeeet... Here I am getting back into Warhammer after a long brake, and of of the first post I see referes to one of my old ideas. How spooky is that :)

I havn't gotten very far with my ghost army, but I still plan on making it a reality.

This is one of my main conserns too. I fear that a big army will look a little "bleh" as you say. Especially big things like Stegadons. One way to solve this is to paint only Saurus and skinks as ghosts... and let mounts be "real".

Heh, I'm in almost exactly the same boat. I'm just getting back into the game after a long break, and this is the only Lizardmen colour scheme that I liked (That I could actually paint! :D )

So far I've done up about a half dozen saurus, a Krox test model and a Skink test model and I really love the way it looks. I can't decide what sort of accents it's going to need (If any) to avoid looking too same-y. I figure I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, heh.
