Now that Skink Chiefs can ride Terradons again, I was planning on trying one out (using that neat Tik'takto model of course). He'll be in my Slann list so I was planning on using him for Character hunting, usually Mage as a Skink isn't really hard enough for most other characters.

Should I give him the Piranha Blade and the Bane Head (triple wounds against nominated character)? Or should I give him a spear, Staff of the Lost Sun and the Bane Head so he can do other things if there isn't an appropriate target in the enemy army?

Or maybe even a Spear, the Maiming Shield and the Bane Head?

    Any thoughts?

As A character hunter I find Terridon mounted skinks too expensive since they can't effectively take on any character with a decent toughness and expect to live. 4 str 5 atks on the charge with a spear is nice, but with a WS 4 your not going to hit very often, then, for those that do hit, you have to wound and then armor saves. A -2 AS is nice against R&F troops but against a character it leaves to much room for the enemy to pass his save. And if you don't kill him on the turn you charge the chiefs as good as dead.

Not many mages could survive an attack from a skink chief. Unless of course, your opponent is chaos...

I was assuming that he was referring to non-mage characters as well. If it's mages you want to kill the old FSoD works fine and he's cheap.

We now have a Killing Blowing FSoD...
The Dagger of Sotek is 25 and Cloak is 25 so a chief can have (with an additional hand weapon) strike 4 S4 attacks that have killing blow... not sure if its rlly that usefull but I will certainly try.

You can't use an additional hand weapon with a magic weapon :(

So when you can't auto kill with 4 atks, at least you can auto wound. Which is still killer against mages.

Not really sure what you mean here. Can you clarify?

My own mage hunting Chief looks like this:

    "Guided Missile Skink"

Skink Cheif: Terradon, Light Armor, Shield, Spear, Bane Head.

At a little over 100 points he's nice and cheap, and 3 Str 5 and 1 Str 4 on the charge + the Bane head (double wounds against one nominated model) should ensure that he drops his target on the first charge. After that he can go off and harass other things.

The Dagger of Sotek is another good choice which would allow him to hunt most mansized models. All he needs is that 6 to wound and its bye bye general.

Venom of the fire fly frog. 6's auto wound instead of auto kill and with 2 hand weapons the chief gets an extra attack, so 4 attacks that can possibly auto wound.
