Hi guys! I've been thinking about doing what so many people have suggested and adding a Scar Vet to my army. I will probably be running him in with my TG + Slann block and I realized 2 things:

    1) He is amazing for how much he costs! Wow...his point cost is so good for what he can do!
    and..
    2) I have no idea how to deck him out...

I have no experience running one and don't know where to start really...The Slann and Skink Priests etc. all have certain things you want to do with them that stand out...like BSB for Slanns and Loremaster and Dispel Scrolls or Cubes for Priests etc...but I have no idea what to do for my Scar Vet.

Could you guys help me out and give me some suggestions on how to equip a Scar Vet effectively? Keep it cheap because he's cheap already? Go all out because of his low base cost and sink a lot of points?

    Thanks ahead :)

I used to play one in my TG unit:

    Scar-Vet
    great weapon
    Armour of Fortune
    Venom of the Firefly Frog
    Dragonbane Gem

The TG would have the Banner of Eternal Flame giving this guy 4S7 poisoned, magical flaming attacks. Great for anything that's larger than your usual opponent. He even saved my flank against a unit of Dragon Princes. Just get him out of the unit and plop him next to it. Either your opponent charges the Scar-Vet or he charges the TG. In case of the latter just charge them the turn after a have at them, no flaming attacks anymore ;)

Personally, I wouldnt bother running him in your TG.

I used to do it religiously, but after a while I noticed its a waste of his firepower and it creates an "Eggs in one basket" situation that could really ruin your day.

Temple guard are already: Fairly expensive, Fairly strong and extremely important, if you have a slann in them. So a squad of 20 Temple guard being in excess of 350 points.... by 5, and a slann which could range from 375 to 445 in 2k, Adding in a Scar veteran at 85 plus magic items is a huge section of your army!

Also, I find people like to avoid the TG bunker... a lot! If you stick a scar vet in a Saurus warrior squad, you give them a bunch more attacks and higher strength, plus a good guy to take / issue challenges.

Or even more fun, Cloak of feathers that bad boy and make him fly behind your enemy and slice up some war machines!!!!

you can use Jaguar charm to make him fly, no?

I'd like to use my veteran in this fashion: BsB, cold one and light armour to give him Armour Save 2+.

Or coldone, light armour, charmed shield, luckstone, the other trickster' shard, blade of chotec.

A lot of my scar vets end up on cold ones with AS1+ and GW and often a ward as well, e.g. with dawnstone and gamblers armour you have a M7 4xS7+1xS4 attacks where, although you strike last, with a re-rollable 1+AS and a 6+ward, you're likely to be alive to roll your attacks.

I tend to prefer extra strength or a better to hit than extra attacks as attacks that don't wound are useless. The high AS and wards are to keep the character alive to get its lowish Ini atacks off over multiplr rounds of combat.
