so i been using 49 skinks and a skink chief in there with a BSB and the skaven pelt banner, anyone have any ideas on how to utilize this tactic and let me know if its a waste of point or not, so far it hasnt been terrible, seems to do well against most armies
A 49 skink unit is just begging for some Kroxigors to be added. They will be expensive, but it will be worth it.
Can't go wrong with 3 Krox. I think those 50 skinks would fare you better as 5 squads of 10 skirmishers. They will likely perform much better than a giant block of squishy T2 lizards. Plus they are a bit more spread out so template attacks aren't as big of a worry. And your opponent won't possibly be able to target them all in one turn unless it's WE or something.
I'm not sure what you'd gain from running that many skinks, you'd get a lot of attacks (assuming they're at least 8 wide) probably 30 plus your chief but you'd be very squishy. If they hit anything hitting at a strength 4 (or even a strength 3) you're going to be looking at a lot of casualties! I'd look at either scrox units, smaller speedbump skink units or skink skirmishers/chameleons as mentioned above.
Dont listen to the nay-sayers.... I run "all" skinks...not a Saurus in my army. I have 3 block units of Skrox, one with 50ish Skinks and 4 Krox. Immune to fear, immune to stomp, steadfast virtually to the last man. 48 Skinks/4 Krox 24 Skinks/3 Krox 24 Skinks/3 Krox 25 Skinks 2x 15 Skink Skirmishers 10 Cameleons Something key to remember about the Skrox unit...the Kroxigor count as the number of Skinks that they displace. This means that 3 Krox count as basically 2 full ranks of Skinks. Remember that when counting combat res, but especially for counting Steadfast. This is a little twisty in the new rules and I expect this to be changed in the new book, but for now this works great.
That'd take up about all your special points in a 3000 point game. I plan to try an 19 strong unit before next Summer but I got a lot of assembly and painting to do.
