Hi everybody, I just bought my first box of saurus warriors and skinks- super exited to start painting these bad boys! I've been playing 40k for just over a year now with Catachan Imperial Guard, but after seeing the awesome model range for Lizardmen, I jumped on in XD.

I'm slowly absorbing the rules, and from reading some tactica about LM from this and other similar forums, I know a few things about Salamanders and Slann (lore of life and light =p)

I don't know the first thing about any other army besides Lizardmen, but I was wondering what a good, balanced Lizardmen Army would look like. I'd prefer not to play swarms of skinks (having played enough shooting swarms in 40k), and I'd like to have as many different models as I can, any suggestions?

Thanks! Is there also a thread that clarifies the special rules of the LM units? I understand Scaly skin stacks with shields, light armor, and mounts, etc. So does that mean that skink skirmishers have no save?

yea the blowpipe skinks have (no save),
the javelin skinks have a shield so they get a (6+ armor save).
the skink cohorts (rank and sile skinks) have a shield and R&F bonus (6+ armor & 6+ ward savees)

Yes, that is a good thing. It keeps them cheap and expendable. 70 point units that can cover 12" a turn are great.

OK, thank you all for clarifying =) I'm currently waiting for my skinks' basecoats to dry and in the meantime I'm trying to read up on Heroes on mounts joining units. I feel like a complete noob after playing 40k for so long XD

the game is easy to learn, its just using your units to their max that requiers practise ;)
u can guide yourself through tips and army lsits on here, but the best thing to do, is to play test units you like a few times, and see what you think,

    the absolute no brainers are
    slann, salamanders ,

u hardly see a list without them :)

but maybe u prefer a full saurus army to go in combat, or u you prefer a bunch of dinos, its all up to how you play, and what you like

there are enough peopel here to help out with all the questions u need ;)

Take as many Saurus as you can, and beat up everything. The only magic caster you can take is an Old Blood, with armor, great weapon, and Wizard's hat. So he can wear power armor and go beat up all the other wizards that make fun of him for being stupid.

maybe I am blind but surely if javelin skinks have a shield they have the 6 plus ward save just like skink cohorts.

They do, but skirmishers don't generally spend as much time in close combat as cohort skinks.

Skirmishers don't get the ward save bonus.

    Edit:

My bad, I mus be thinking of an older edition of the rules.
well that and I never use javelin skirmishers...

Incorrect. Being a a skirmisher has no affect on the parry 6+ ward save.

If you're building an army list and you're decent at conversions, I'd recommend going all out with dinosaurs. Because then you can get cheaper models from solid companies like Papo, Safari LTd., Carnegie, and Schliech, and your dinosaurs will have more variety and panache than everyone else's.
