Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (EOTG crew & Priest)

Here are some pictures of the Stegadon, now that he is (mostly) done. Still some detail work like the tongue, eyes, and some real nittpicky stuff.

Quick note on coloring. Purple is going to be the color of magic in my army. The Slann and skink priests will have it as one of their main colors. So, in my mind, the crew and the Stegadon have been exposed to enough magic by proximity to the priest and Engine that they have also taken on purple scales. Stegadon #2 down the road will probably have more natural looking scales.

Beautiful. Is there some OSL going on there with the EotG and the banners?

Awesome. Ugh that edge highlighting stuff around all the scales must have taken a lifetime...in which case you must be a cat :D

@OldMossy no, there isn't any OSL. That's just the flash from the camera and lighting.

@Favored yeah, it took forever, but we really like the results.

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (Stegadon update)

It's been a while, work has been super busy. However, been working on the unit of TG. The unit is not finished yet, but a few models are pretty close and I thought I could get some feedback before completing the rest.

I'm thinking the champion and musician might benefit from a shoulder pad or two...

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (TG sample)

Full unit of 26 TG now done. Added two shoulder pads to the Musician to beef him up a little and one shoulder pad each for the Champion and Bannerman (shields don't leave enough space on the other side).

Next project is the plastic Oldblood with sword and board then some chameleon skinks.

That's one great looking unit of Temple Guard :) I really like your color choice with the shields, it really makes the models stand out!

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (TG finished)

Thanks Kirk, that's exactly what we were going for!

So here is the plastic Oldblood model. Did a hand swap to give him the champion's halberd from the TG. Gave him two of the CoC banners for some added flair. Converted the base some because I thought the ruined steps would look too out of place with the rest of the bases in the army. There is a tiny amount of OSL on the base. Hope you guys like him!

Very cool Oldblood! I'm a great fan of the darker red, but it's often hard to make the bronze parts to "pop" from red. You managed to do this admirably! Also the bright blue shield and some selected details really bring the model together. Superb!

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (Scar Vet update)

Thanks for the kind words! A lot of people have commented on the blue shields which is exactly what I wanted from an accent color.

Next up is a batch of 10 chameleon skinks.

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (Scar Vet update)

Finished up 10 chameleon skinks. I wanted to do an inverted color scheme of the regular skinks (page 1). Also, I hoped the grey skink would blend with the terrain, the red/orange scales with the lava I have been putting on bases and the movement trays to come. The frogs were a good chance to add some different colors to the army.

Finally got some time to finish up another model, an old Skink Priest. He will be joined by his new plastic brethren in the near future.

Re: Volcanic Lizardmen Painting blog (Skink Priest update 8/

So here is the first Slann Mage Priest. He is currently unnamed. The idea I was trying was that the throne itself is made of molten rock. To try to achieve that, I went with an almost black rock with traces of red/orange/yellow throughout. At first I tried having the fire colors following the engraving and glyphs of the throne, but the grooves in the models were too fine for me to get so many layers of paint in there. So I went back to primer and just let the fire bleed out and ignored the designs on the throne.

For the Slann himself, I wanted something that would pop from across the table. Given the muted colors of the Saurus and skinks, I went back to the bright blue of the salamanders. Because of the Slann's magical awesomeness, the vines, leafs, and lizards remain as unharmed by the molten throne as he does himself.

For the basing I used some greenstuff to build up the rocks in the lava. About the extend of my sculpting abilities or I would have gone more jagged and spire-like with the rocks.

Very, very nice! I love the lava effects! The leaves the Slann is sitting on are especially nice, too bad his toad-y behind covers them. Can you tell me how you did the copper/brass parts on the palanquin?
