So, seeing as I don't earn that much, I need to be careful how I spend my money. And a thought has just occured to me, do you guys think that it's possible to convert some Temple Guard from a box of Saurus using green stuff and some bits? i will purchase true Temple Guard if need be, just means I'll have to save up longer is all
Fair point I'm going to purchase the Battalion box anyway (maybe two lots of it) so I'll have at least one proper unit of them in which to bunker a Slann (or at least, my "counts as") and the other could be stuck at the back so the difference won't look two bad, or simply use them in small 16-20 men groups to use as flanking units? I think if I can tie up say, a unit of Skaven Clanrats (or other equally weak core) with my maint, 'true' unit of TG, and then smash them either side with my 'fake' TG i could decimate any core unit. This plan works in my High Elves army, tying up a unit of core with my 5x8 unit of Spearmen, and then smashing the core with my two units of 15 Swordmasters. Also, I could also use the 'fake' TG as regular Saurus when I want more core and less TG
You could always just paint their crests a bone colour. I'd go all-out on the small armor parts that come with the saurus box as well.
You mean the shoulder pauldrons? definitely could use them, seeing as there's about 3 command sprues per Saurus box (becuase they have the spears on them) about 2 sets of pauldrons per sprue, 2 boxes gives me 12 pauldrons, I've already used one set for the champ meaning I've then got 11, and then the extra ones from the Saurus that come in the Battalion, giving me a total of 16, (I'm going to be making another champion from the Battalion) Just enough for a full box of Saurus
I've bought halberds and heads from ebay earlier, for converting normal Saurus into TG. Mainly as it makes the conversion a little easier. What I did was just keep a watch on ebay auctions, and when there was one that no one bid on, I snapped it up right before it expired. Just make certain that you calculate in the shipping cost etc, so that you don't end up the conversion costing more than just getting the TG box.
I'm going to do this myself, sculpting a baby steg/ceratops bone helmet, make a mold and cast about 18 or so for some 5th ed plastic saurus to wear. Shouldn't take much to pull that off...
Ahhh, how I wish I was that good at sculpting! Sadly, I have to make do with whatever I can. By the way, I love your painting and the older models in your painting blog!
I agree with whats been said, just cut the spear tips off, put the hw blades on, use the shoulder armor. I myself would buy the temple guard heads from an ebay bitz auction, they usually run 2to3 bucks which is cheaper than buying greenstuff to sculpt new heads (and saves you time and effort).
I'll get started on this project soon and try to take photos all the way through, if anyone wants to try and follow my lead. I don't expect it to be an "advanced skill level" project...
