Hi guys Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to which colour of wash would look good over ivory coloured terradons? I need to bring out the shading in the crevices but i don't want to change the colour much at all. (i tried uploading photos from photobucket but it says that they can only be 1 pixel wide? :S) Any suggestiong would be great Cheers, Danny
Perhaps a whined wash of sepia and then some black wash in the darkest recesses. perhaps a little bit of brown wash as well to transition between the other two. * (I don't recall all the new wash names)
http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/posting-images.1648/ have a look at this!! i agree with n810 here, sepia would work well. remember to always thin inks with water first for a more subtle shading and depth. if the whole terradon is ivory maybe wash the whole model, then when it dries wash the scaly parts again so that they are a subtle shade darker than the wing membrane? just a thought. and dont forget to post pics when theyre done!
Thanks for the tips there guys Looks like I'll be buying some sepia wash this weekend then Here are a couple of photos of one of the terras as they are now:- They still have a long way to go and i'm not sure what others will think of the plain body/bright wing combination but hey, i like colours
they're your minis, at the end of the day who cares what anyone else thinks as long as you like them! that said i do like them too my advice is that the whole model is really in need of a wash/washes to bring out the depth. the colours lok good, but flat. i would say sepia for the ivory skin, a dark green for the rider, and a grey/blue for the blue wings. your right about not wanting to change the colours and just add depth to the crevaces and i think once you do its going to look sweet i have had good results by just watering paints down and washing with them, id recommend the new equivalents of shadow grey for the blue, catachen green for the rider and graveyard earth for the ivory EDIT: shadow grey = "the fang", catachan green = "castellan green", graveyard earth = "steel legion drab"
Glad you like them I am by no means a great painter and I certainly have nothing on your skill but I try :L I'll pop to my local store tomorrow and pick up those three paints What sort of ratio (water to paint) do you use for washes? And are the ready made washes not superior? Thanks for the help, appreciate it
im afraid i have no experience with the ready made washes (seeing as i only have old citadel paints) so hopefully someone else will jump in here with some input before you spend your money. water to paint i usually water it to near translucent so its coloured water, but its really trial and error and depends how much shade you want over the whole washed area. most of my paints are near dried anyway so need loads of water to be useable so just try it out and find out whatever you like the look of. if you go to pick up paints id bring a picture of your terradon and ask a store employee, although i find GW staff tend to just try to sell me as much as possible they do know their stuff. looking forward to seeing this post wash
I have used them quite a bit, and I'm no fan of GW paint and glue (seriously don't buy their glue) But I have to say that their washes are quite excellent, they go in smooth and and shade nicely and dry gloss free.
