Hi guys, this will hopefully be an unofficial log of my attempts at painting the great beasts of Lustria!

I have first started a small unit of saurus, o know you can't see command yet, but that's because these are the back ranks, I always find that I start a unit at the front, and the best looking model that I produce is always on the back ranks as i have refined the paint scheme by that time!

    http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy327/Davidmarsden727/image_zps81355be4.jpg

And the unit as it stands

I hope to post more, my current lined up project is a skink cohort but i couldn't resist converting a few to chameleon skinks, will post them when they are done with their actual inspiration, my various pets :)

A daft question, but if I post a URL file, will it show on the page?

The yellow is very striking! Is it a pattern on their scales or war paint? What colors are you thinking for the rest of your army?

Agreed, very striking, and the grey scales on the back work very nicely to mute the scheme somewhat. On that note, you could maybe add an extra highlight layer to the spines on his back. I'm wondering if when the whole unit of 20-odd comes together, might the green shields not confuse the eye a little, with maybe a bit too much colour? I don't know, just a thought.

That chameleon skink is AWESOME! Is that oxyotl? I think you nailed it, you can instantly tell what it's supposed to be. The tail at the base is pretty chunk, which looks good, but might be worth chunking out some more of his back to even it up?

Hi guys thanks for the feedback, i should be ale to finish a few saurus off today so we can see if there are too many colours, i hope not, I really do!

I was thinking the yellow as war paint, I kinda like the idea of skinks ritualistically daubing the paint on the going to war, as kind of a strength and luck prayer. I have this kind of diorama in my head of an old blood stood there with swarms of skinks just painting him up, a priest offering up votives/sacrifice, and then other skinks working together to fetch his armour, shield and weapons. I may even one day get round to making it!

You know what mossy, I think your right, he needs a bit more filling out about the waist, and maybe a few more spines up the back.

Im thinking of basing the unit of chamo skinks off of my chameleons i keep, which are Yemen, panther, jacksons, taita blade horns and knob nosed chameleon, having 5 in hiding colours and 5 in very bright aggressive colours.

If i do an Oxyotol, I will base him off of a Mellors chameleon, which is tHe second largest in the world, and one of the weirdest looking, to kind of showcase hes been through the warp?

So finished 10 saurus, I don't think they are too bad in the colour clash palet

    image_zps6b5c2058.jpg

I even sneaked one in for Scottish saurus...

    image_zps6e1d4d10.jpg

I added a sneaky panther chameleon to keep the skink company on my shelf

    The other side.....

    image_zpsfaf703e0.jpg

I will go and get some pictures of the inspiration for the above model soon :)

Your passion for chameleons really shows in your work! The latest guy is my favorite so far; He's got a very dynamic pose. The war paint looks great too, love me some fluff to go with an army.

Your ranked up saurus are sweet. The yellow warpaint really unifies them.

I keep blue tongue lizards (Wesley and Buttercup, if you are reading lbisson) but I'm not scared to take their picture. The trick is to keep your jungle poisons stored in a different room.

I want to see your menagerie. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Edit: You got to-scale logs for your bases - that's dedication. Be good to see how you paint / flock / grass the final product.

    And the afore mentioned inspiration:

And when he has a camera shoved in his face we get this reaction

I am putting the modelling kit away and having a day off tomorrow so not so many posts from me :D

Very nice looking stuff so far. Really, really like the yellow warpaint on your saurus. I'm also loving all the different conversions for your chameleon skinks and their dynamic poses. I've always wanted to do some cool stuff with converted chameleon skinks but alas I fear my skill (lack thereof) of using green stuff .

The danger i found in looking at other people's work is that it inspires you! I checked out a nice little concept on a certain Kaa Tidecaller gave me ideas, ideas are irresistible for me.....

lLord Buffo your idea has brought Khaa'met Serpent Tongue forward! He is still a WIP things like the mini comet, his hands, neck and the addition of little fetishes need doing.......

Based on a Sun Gazed lizard, mad still very rough at the minute, there's even a whole fluff story forming in my head, damn the forum and its inspiration :D

Ok so I did a little more work on the above mini

That's it for conversions for the mean time, 19 normal skinks to paint and a saurus command, the joy of rank and file!

Wow, this is great - i can see the improvement in your sculpting just since you started this thread. No telling where you will end up! Great facial expression on that last lizard (if a lizard can be said to have a facial expression!) Nice use of a real stick for that staff. I am using more and more found items from the woods in my work too.

Thanks T'hinker'er, it means a lot coming from a talented sculptor such as yourself, I've been admiring your models and looking at what you've done to gain some inspiration!
I do find that sticks and stones, as well as shells and seed pods are great additions, nothing is safe from being glued to a base :p

I tried 40k, but found that the conversion scope was limited unless Uber talented and polished, fantasy is letting me flex my scalpel and tools! Just gotta learn how to do scales!

I have found that the wealth of enthusiasm and ideas on this forum are helping to bouy me along on this painting/sculpting mission, so thank you all so far :smug:
