hey guys. My son and I have an upcoming doubles tourney and I would like some advice on list options. He’s playing Skaven, most likely verminus horde, fielding clan rats and storm vermin mainly. I figured this would give me an optimal screen and also a way to plink some models off with the skinks I’ll need to bring as well. I’ve got a couple lists made out and would appreciate some feedback for more of a support/summon role or if I should go in an entirely different direction. 1st is a mini Kroaknaddo: [*Pitched Battle** 1,000 (Order - Seraphon) [1,250pts] [Leader Engine of the Gods [220pts] Lord Kroak [450pts] Saurus Astrolith Bearer [160pts] + Artillery + Razordons Razordons + Battleline + Skinks [120pts]: 2x 10 Skinks, Boltspitters and Shields Skinks [120pts]: 2x 10 Skinks, Boltspitters and Shields + Malign Sorcery + Endless Spells [100pts]: Balewind Vortex, Chronomatic Cogs Total: [1,250] 2nd is a double Bastiladon shooting style ++ **Pitched Battle** 1,000 (Order - Seraphon) [1,240pts] ++ + Leader + Engine of the Gods [220pts] Slann Starmaster [260pts] + Behemoth + Bastiladon [280pts]: Solar Engine Bastiladon [280pts]: Solar Engine + Artillery + Razordons [40pts]: Razordons Razordons [40pts]: Razordons + Battleline + Skinks [60pts]: 10 Skinks, Boltspitters and Moonstone Clubs Skinks [60pts]: 10 Skinks, Boltspitters and Moonstone Clubs ++ Total: [1,240pts] 3rd would be more like a typical shadowstrike 1k list adding in the additional 250 points as something ? Also a question on summoning, if I had the points to bring in 20 skinks on a turn do I have to bring them in as 2 separate units or could I bring them in as 1 unit of 20? Or more general, can I increase the size of a unit if I have the points or do they always have to be considered separate units at that point.
I'll answer this first. Summoned models are considered a fresh unit. They can't be divided or added to existing units. The EotG summons a unit of 3x Ripperdactyls, 20x Skinks, etc. Same for the Slann summoning.
As to the lists, your Kroak list could be fun, but with the Clan Rat screens, your Skinks are a bit superfluous. I'd knock those units down to 10 each and bring more Razordons. That leaves you with 40 points to play with. Your 2nd list could be fantastic too. With all that screening, 2x Basti's could deal out major damage. The biggest issue I see with the first two lists are the number of drops. Skaventide rarely uses Battalions, so if you did, you could give your team the advantage of finishing deployment first, which is where Shadowstrike comes in. I actually have 1250 MPP battles coming up in my local escalation league and I'm considering this list: Leaders Slann Starmaster (260) Skink Starpriest (80) Battleline 20 x Skinks (120) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers 10 x Skinks (60) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Units 6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280) 4 x Razordons (160) Battalions Shadowstrike Starhost (180) Endless Spells Balewind Vortex (40) Chronomantic Cogs (60) Total: 1240 / 1250 Extra Command Points: 1 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 71 This list could also be changed up to bring an EotG or Basti, dropping 10 Skinks and the Razordons.
