My current running favorite is Versailles, starting George blagden. I'm very happy he got the role as I thought he was a promising actor after seeing him in vikings. The current teo seasons are on Netflix, with a third ordered.
I sometimes watch such movies/shows but quite often I quit halfway through because the historical inaccuracies bother me. Not always though.
I would recommend Versailles then. Other than the accents being off, the costuming and acting is top quality
I would heartily recommend the Last Kingdom to anybody interested in historical dramas. As well has having top-quality acting, most of the characters are really good and the storylines are excellent. The first two series have sadly finished but we have them on DVD and there is promise of a third series coming soon!
I like historical dramas... to a certain extent. I'll try to explain myself. I have devoured the first season of Vikings. Then I barely followed the second one and ATM I just know there is a fifth (which means that i totally missed also 3 and 4) I like them, but I lose interest when things requires time (literally, years) to follow developements. Once it was different, but actually that's how my tastes work.
I watched Vikings season 1 and 2 and liked them, but the third one.... meh. Stopped watching after that.
Really? I had heard that this one was kind of crap especially with the costume design. I suppose I should give it another shot
My dad likes Pride and Prejudice (no not the zombies), does that count? Me personally, the only historical dramas I have cared for are movies (Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn, Ivanhoe, Knights of the Round Table), TV shows I haven't gotten into. I do read lots of history books though, just finished a good one on King John not long ago.
New article on season 3 of Versailles. Apparently it's going to be the finale. Which makes me slightly sad because the cast has been excellent http://variety.com/2018/film/global/versailles-louis-xiv-georges-blagden-season-3-1202743413/
