Having trouble finding the answer to this simple question. Can 2 different hero units in my army carry the same artefact? Was thinking of giving both my Slann and EoTG a Gryph-Feather Charm from the realm of Ghur, but not sure if the rule of one would prohibit that.
Has there ever been an explenation given for why this is cuz its frequently just a bit awkward. There's usually 1 artifact that's clearly the best for certain types of heroes, but I can live with not being able to throw that on all of em. But it's also not that uncommon to only really have 1 or 2 halfway decent artifacts. for that particular role. Without realm artifacts we only have like 2 artifacts that are going to see any real use on our skinks and slann, so if we bring a slann supported by two skink we already can't give em all usefull artifacts. Which makes this rule rather weird.
I don't think so but it's not that strange if you think of it logically, would you really create 2 Artifacts the same?, I know this is fantasy but there is only ever one off's otherwise they lose their importance and value.
True, but I also wouldn't expect there to be only 6 artifacts of significane in an entire faction. Especially if that faction is ancient and lead by beings of supreme magical prowess. You'd think the slanns would've made some more stuff by now. What I'd prefer would be a system where you basicly get 2 tiers of artifacts. A "legendary" tier which has the best stuff and is unique like we currently have. And a "mastercrafted" tier which contains the lesser generic stuff like -1 bonus rend on a weapon, which can then be taken as much as you'd want. It'd Ensure that if you take multiple heroes with the same role they can actually get a relevant artifact, instead of ending up with a skink starpriest that for some reason has -1 extra rend on his dagger cuz you ran out of usefull artifacts.
If every other Lizardman battleforce is carrying the Gryph-feather charm there must be a factory someplace churning them out by the boxful. Or maybe a big stone carved gryphon idol harks up one like a hairball twice a week.
On that note, it's kinda silly that two opposing armies can have the same artifacts but the same army can't have doubles….
It is a concession to gameplay. In a story campaign you could let armies find/steal/loot artefacts and make them really unique, but in a tournament or so it would be weird to limit list building because of an opponent's choice.
I know, it just accentuates the game-y-ness of the rule of one though and shows how the rule literally only exists to balance, but is ultimatly arbitrary and could've been balanced in other ways.
I have a follow up artifact question about the Sword of Judgment from the realm of Ulgu. Gave it to ScV on Carno and with rerolls from a nearby astrolith, got 3 6's on the attack rolls, turned that into 15 mortal wounds, which one-shot a lord-celestant on star-drake. Is that the correct way to play with this artifact?
