I'm planning on converting an astrolith bearer as I'm really not a fan of the official model, but I'm not 100% convinced that he's worth the investment. I'm only going to be playing small games and don't have a slann, so I wouldn't benefit from his conjuration point generation. In your experience is he still worthwhile with his other buffs?
Yes, the Astrolith bearer is a very powerful support character, offering rerolling hits and casting bonuses. If your taking an army where rerolling hits would be beneficial (which is almost all of them) or if you need casting buffs in either of these rolls the astrolith excels
I can't think of a time where re-rolling hits isn't helpful Thanks for the advice folks, that's my mind made up I think.
I sometimes omit the AB in Shadowstrike lists or when I intend to spread all over the board, since everyone is rerolling already, or out of range anyway, but as soon as you turtle a bit he has a very high value.
yeah, between additional CCPs, rerolling to hit, boost casting... well, it's possible to field a Seraphon army that doesn't need any of those bonuses (low point Shadowstrike, as said by @Aginor), but 9 times on 10 the AB will serve you well. So yes, he's worth the investment. and anyway, sooner or later you will buy a Slann.
I frequently include the Astrolith Bearer in Shadowstrike list so that I can LoSaT a new vector to drop my units summoned with CCP around.
