    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to AoS and wargaming in general. I'm building my first army, so I want to make sure I'm not making any grevious errors.

Fundamentally, I'm picking the Seraphon because even as a thirty year old man I think dinosaurs are cool, the tactical flexibility of summoning units and throwing down buffs sounds intriguing, and utility units like sinks make everything better.

I've been looking through the battalions (thanks to Killer Angle for the advice) and I'd like to be sure I have the models to deploy the thunderquake and/or shadowstrike starhosts or the Heavenswatch starhost.

So I think I'll need to get the following:

    1 Slann
    1 Skinkstar priest
    1 Skin priest
1-2 boxs of skinks (any suggestion on going blowpipe or javelin?)
2 bastiladons (I just like the look of bastiladons more than stagadons.)
    1 Engine of the Gods
    1-2 Ripperdactayls
1-2 Razordons (I like the idea of lots of attacks over the Salamander, but am open to suggestions)

Is there anything else I should make sure I get? I'd also welcome any suggestions on what to buy first to make sure I can start playing a quickly as possible.

    Thanks for your help everyone!

    What's your starting budget?

If you get Slann and EotG you need the units they can summon so first I would say build a 1000pts list with,

    Slann
    Basilidon
    Ripperdactyls
    Skinks, Blowpipes

So you suggest blowpipes over javelins? I guess blowpipes synergize better with the 9" placement of summoned units.

You don't really want skinks getting too close to the enemy as they will melt in combat

Yep, I also exclusively play boltspitters and shields for Skinks.

I think all of those units can be really useful.

@Crowsfoot how do you prevent your rippers from getting sniped outside of shadowstrike?

You don’t they are glass cannons but at 1000pts you could use a Shadowstrike but it will leave you very short on models on the table.

Rippers will be seen as a threat and taken out giving you time to gain points to summon

What's your advice against a melee heavy faction like the Ogers? I guess use skinks to absorbe charges and grab any objectives while sniping as much as possible with the bastilidon and razordons before the get caught in melee.

You have to play the objective, if it’s a straight kill game you need to take out the leaders but it’s not an easy task, if it’s a 1000pt game he won’t have many models so use that to your advantage but be careful if they charge your in trouble.

Skinks and lots of them to block and hinder, teleport stuff in to stop charges etc

Use turn one to get as many CP and get skinks in

I prefer to run Boltspitter over the Javelins simplely because it doubles the ranges of the missile weapon profile. If you run Javelins you won't be able to shoot with them the same turn your teleport them (unless you roll a 5/6) or summon them. I love both Razordons and Salamnders, but if you are just looking to fill out the Thunderquake Starhost Battalions then I would go with Razordons. Slamanders are great for teleporting in with Skink Handlers to snipe enemy heroes, but in order to gain the benefits of the savage stance and Astrolith Bearer rerolls then they need to be near your battalions EoTG and AB.

I would go with two boxes (probably even three) of Skinks. You can never have too many of these little guys. Skinks are perfect for summoning fodder, filling in cheap battleline taxes, and snagging objective. If you go with two boxes you will own 40 Skinks and can run three units of 10 Skinks for your batteline requirements and leave enough room for the Astrolith Bearer and a unit of either 4 Razordons or Salamanders with 300 points left over for endless spells, a second EotG, Skink Priest/Starpriest, or some Ripperdactyles.
