I understand FoS Skink + Sally armies might be the first competitive, go-to build, but for some reason I keep going back to Shadowstrike Templehost. Here are the two versions I'm looking at. 40 Skinks with +2 armor, -1 dmg seems like a blast. No Sallies, but I think this type of list could be fun and also pretty decent. Thoughts? Thunderlizards: 1990/2000 Lord Kroak (320) Skink Starpriest (120) Aetherquartz Brooch Skink Priest (70) Terradon Chief (70) UNITS 40 x Skinks (240) 10 x Skinks (60) 10 x Skinks (60) 9 x Terradon Riders (270) Bastiladon (220) Bastiladon (220) Shadowstrike Temple-host (150) Balewind Vortex (40) Bound Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (70) Chronomantic Cogs (80) Version 2 - more all-in on 40 block of Skinks and Terradons Thunderlizards: 1990/2000 Lord Kroak (320) Skink Starseer (140) Skink Starpriest (120) Aetherquartz Brooch Skink Priest (70) Skink Priest (70) Terradon Chief (70) UNITS 40 x Skinks (240) 10 x Skinks (60) 10 x Skinks (60) 12 x Terradon Riders (360) Bastiladon (220) Shadowstrike Temple-host (150) Balewind Vortex (40) Bound Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (70)
I like it! And I wouldn't worry too much about the go-to builds. Seraphon is an army that is no longer list dependent. We very much win games on the table and not on the paper.
Overall looks interesting, and the mortal wound output could be pretty powerful. I would say the first list is more rounded and better suited, but they both seem solid
Cogs aren't mandatory. They certainly help though. And the flexibility is nice. At the moment I am casting cogs with my Skink Starpriest turn one. Being able to slow down time with the Starseer or Starpriest is great to gain that extra skink lore. Or, speeding things up when I need the extra movement speed. I don't find that I generally the extra spell on either Kroak of a Slann. Only played one game with a regular Slann Starseer at the current moment though. The rest have all be with Kroak.
Thanks for the insight. Due to isolation, I've only played one game with the new book. How has Kroak been performing for you? In my head I thought I'd always run him with 5xGuard so he can move up a little more aggressively and have some extra wound but I was curious about your experiences thus far.
I've kept him back and out of combat. He has been dealing about 18 MWs a turn from his warscroll spells. So, he is certainly high kill priority. I haven't felt like I have to run Saurus Guard with him yet. However, if there is a lot of Living City, DoT, or Hallowheart in your local meta then Suaurus Guard are definitely worth their points.
