Just finished the first day of work on my Dread Saurian. It started life as a Pegasus Hobbies Spinosaurus. I removed the sail and have added the spines and various Seraphon bits to bling it up. I also built up a green stuff framework along the spine to add scale detail to. Next step will be scale details.
I will. Once I have started the scales I'll do some closer up shots. I'll be working on the base today hopefully as well.
Base is built, Greenstuff built up around the spines for a better transition and the scales have been started. The lower portion where the foot is will be under "water" swamp style. The next step is hours of sculpting scales, and priming the base.
I have made progress on the scales. I will probably be posting an update with another picture tonight.
Doing scales individually by hand can be a real drag. My preference when doing scales is to make a mold, and just press it on. You can make molds with greenstuff actually! I personally use a plastic instant mold that you can reuse. It makes scales SO easy. Just pick a part of the miniature with prominent scaling, press on the wet/malleable mold, let the mold dry/harden, then press the scale texture onto wet greenstuff where you want scales. Few tutorials that have helped me: Greenstuff 101: Instant Mold Tutorial: how to make and use green stuff press moulds to reproduce bits. Good luck!
I've done greenstuff molds, but with some of the angles it isn't really feasible. I appreciate the tip though.
Sorry for the blurry pics, but one side done. The other side is started. Finish the left side and do the central spines, and he will be ready for primer.
Just finished the majority of the scale work. I just have to do the ridge along the spine. Picture soon (once the green stuff cures).
Sorry about no updates. I've been really busy for awhile. I have him done and bascoated. I will probably start posting again soon.
