So I'm thinking in 8th edition of taking Kroxigor units, or skrox even. Bearing in mind that krox cost £13.50 each, I've got half a mind to convert my own (the other half is shouting eBay, which hasn't worked so far). I'd appreciate if anyone could forward ideas on models to use to convert kroxigor. I'll probably be playing in a GW store in a few months so as much as I love alternative miniatures, I might have to decline them.

The new plastic River Trolls might be right up your alley.

river trolls are a good alternative ive used temple guard head with the plastic troll models for my krox and if you do use them in skrox unit one model has a hand that looks like its reaching over the skinks head to get to the enemy.

head swap was a problem as the trolls heads are put on like cold one heads so you gotta cut back the plastic which leaves a hole but the temple guard head mostly fills it i only had trouble with on emodel where i made the hole to big but i placed a glyph bit from the steg box over it all in all not bad and it makes the slaan feel better about himself he now feels slimmer

Lizardmen Tyrants from Reaper miniatures work really well without a need to convert at all(unless you really want to). They do not come with bases, but on ebay you can get 20 40mm bases for about 6 bucks.

    http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/lizard/latest/06049

With the 4 pack they come to $3.25 US each, so they are tons cheaper.

They're nice, but like I said I'm going to be spending my time playing in a GW store soon and they don't allow non-GW miniatures. :( So it has to be conversions or nothing.

Ahh I am nowhere near a GW store so I was not aware of that rule. And that is a really shitty rule.

I think I might end up going with those reaper minis for now as I have a tournament coming up soon and I need kroxigor for it I think. It's a 1999 tournament and I'm thinking of not taking a steg at all. What kind of size are those Tyrants?

The 4 pack ones are about the same size. They are right around 2 inches high at the top of the head.

I have them(from the 4 pack), just not at home and able to measure. 2 are the same model as
http://www.reapermini.com/figurefinder#detail/02351 (here you can see the triangles for sizing )and the other 2 are the same size just a different pose.
