Could 6 rippers in a shadow strike take out a vamp lord on zombie dragon with ethereal amulet. So a 3+ save and 6+death save. I know im gonna come across it in my next tournament.
It is possible, but highly unlikely. Instead you are better off continually speed bumping it with skinks.
Like with most threats, just skink him out of the relevant parts of the battlefield. I'm sure your opponent will have weaker key units to send your ripeprs on.
Opponents list is something like Legion of blood. Vamp lord on zd Ghoul king on terrorghiest (ally) Mortis engine 5 dire wolves 5 dire wolves 5 direwolves 5 blood knights 10 hex wraiths 10 black knights . Im undecided on my list . either Slann Astro Eotg 40 skinks 10 skinks 10 skinks 4 razordons 3 handlers Basiladon Bastiladon 5 chameleon Thunderquake Or Slann Astro Starpriest Eotg 40 skinks 10 skinks 10 skinks 4 razordon 4 razordon 6 rippers 5 chameleons Shadowstrike. This is for tournament real soon and i expect i will be playing my friends list above at some point
Ignoring the fact that you could Always get Lucky and have him fail all his save-rolls and such. A vampire lord on dragon has 14 wounds. With a 3+ save that'l require an effective 42 attacks With an additional 5+ death save that ups to 63 6 rippers will on average (taking into account the -1 to hit and swooping dive and assuming you're near a toad) deal: 7 spear attacks at 5+/4+/-/1 averaging: 2.91 succesfull attacks 18 Claws at 4+/3+/-/1 averaging: 12 succesfull attacks 18 beaks at 5+/3+/-/1 averaging: 17,778 succesfull attacks meaning that on average you'l be doing ~31 succesfull attacks which is about half what you need. So basicly, your rippers don't stand a chance in hell without support unless you get ridiculously Lucky. As others have pointed out, you're probably better off getting his vampire stuck on wave upon wave of skinks while your rippers go around murdering his other units. His non-heroes seems squishy enough that you can take them out with relative ease if you focus fire, so getting a hold of the objectives should be relativly straightforward in most situations as you should be able to win when it comes to sheer numbers on the field.
skink speedbumbs are good, but doesn`t he just fly over those skinks and then attack our precious units?
That entirely depends on weather or not you have good placement. VLoZD has a huge freaking base. Should be easy to zone out his landing spots.
Flying units can fly over your troops but not land onto them... It just becomes another type of Skink screening. I don't have much experience, but I can say that the tides of my games are 50% dice luck, 40% Skink positioning (meaning your choices with them can make you win or lose any game) and 10% Razordons.
