In my ongoing fluff piece I've developed a number of unique named characters and made a few sneaky mentions of units that sadly no longer exist so I've decided to write a few house rules.

To prevent whacky formatting I'm going to reference existing units as a base statline and work from that when possible. If anyone knows how to make a stat tables with this new fancy forum please let me know and I'll modify my posts.

Anyway without further adieu I give you my cast of characters!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Eternity Warden Szeratops
Bearer of Secrets, General of the First Crusade Host
Eternity Warden Szeratops is privy to the secret origins of the Saurus race and tasked by Mazdamundi to prepare his host for the greatest crusade against the Chaos Gods in history. To this end he leads his army in a quest to uncover more secrets hidden by the Old Ones and smite any foe who stands in their way, be they servents of Chaos or otherwise.
Szeratops can be represented using a Saurus Oldblood with the following equipment: Light Armour, Great Weapon, Sacred Stegadon Helm of Itza, Crown of Command. Szeratops cannot take a mount option.
Szeratops also gains the following special rules at the cost of +80pts
Eternity Warden: As per Chakax in the current edition Lizardmen Army Book
Ritual Combat: When climbing the ranks of the Temple Guard Szeratops had to fight in ritual combat frequently. Now he is representative of Lord Mazdamundi and Hexoatl as a whole he finds himself resolving internal disputes through challenges. When fighting against another Lizardmen character in a challenge Szeratops gains extra attacks from Predatory Fighter on a To Hit roll of 5+ instead of a 6.
Key to the Eternity Chamber: As per Chakax in the current edition Lizardmen Army Book

Design Notes: This guy is pretty much Chakax on steroids (I think Chakax is super weaksauce for his cost so this doesn't seem unreasonable to me), and I think he clocks in a bit cheaper despite the Oldblood statline. I didn't want to go overboard with new fancy special rules and whatnot but I might revisit this and give him a unique Stagadon Helm of Hexoatl at some point.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Aki-Pterixx
Son of Tepok, Destiny Incarnate, General of the Second Crusade Host
Aki-Pterixx was the sole warrior born of his spawning. The purple-feathered Saurus was born to greatness as a blessed Son of Tepok. His entire destiny is known to him, from birth to death and he is gifted with the ability to wield magic - something very few Saurus have ever been noted to be capable of.
Aki-Pterixx can be represented using a Saurus Oldblood with the following equipment: Halberd, Armour of Destiny (of course!). Aki-Pterixx can take either an Ancient Stegadon with an Engin of the Gods (at the same price as the Skink Priests), or a Carnosaur for a mount.
Aki-Pterixx also gains the following special rules for the cost of 160pts
Aloof: Although a genius by all rights Aki-Pterixx rarely pays much thought to his fellows or surroundings. This makes his brilliant tactical acumen somewhat of a moot point if things don't go according to plan. Even though he may be fully aware of the situation it simply may not occur to him to inform his underlings. As a result any model that uses Aki-Pterixx's leadership for Inspiring Presence also suffer from Stupidity.
Sacred Son of Tepok: Aki-Pterixx is blessed by Tepok, protector of places and master of magic. Aki-Pterixx is a Level 2 Wizard that can choose spells from the lore of Fire, Shadow, and Death. Aki-Pterixx CANNOT take spells from the Lore of Undeath - he is too sacred for that!
Destiny Incarnate: Aki-Pterixx must always be your general unless the army also includes either Lord Mazdamundi, Lord Kroak or Eternity Warden Szeratops.

    General Zpakatax Darkscale
Subjugator of Wild Lands, General of the Third Crusade Host
Zpakatax is the most ferocious of Mazdamundi's chosen generals, and has fittingly being tasked with the most aggressive actions in this new Crusade. Using the Paths of the Old Ones his army has established a foothold in the Border Princes region of the Old World south of Brettonia. It is his mission to carve a new territory for Hexoatl to launch an attack to cleanse the Badlands of the Orcs. This is no small task, and he is beset on all sides by foul Beastmen, cunning Skaven, the brutal Orcs themselves and even resident Dwarf holds.
Zpakatax can be represented using a Saurus Oldblood with the following equipment: Light Armour, Shield, Berzerker Sword, Helm of Discord, Talisman of Preservation. Zpakatax can take a mount as per the options for a Saurus Oldblood.
Zpakatax also gains the following special rules at the cost of +30pts
Maiming Shield: Being the savage warrior that he is, Zpakatax has taken it upon himself to affix a variety of horns, talons and blades to the edge of his shield. Zpakatax gains an extra 2 attacks as a result To Hit rolls of 6 due to Predatory Fighter instead of the usual 1.

Design Notes: Zpakatax was pretty easy to make thematic. Berzerker Sword gives him perma-frenzy, Helm of Discord represents how pants-shittingly terrified any enemy unfortunate enough to meet him in single combat would be and the Talisman makes sense simply due to Quetzl being the protector god. Again I didn't want to add too much flashy stuff to him so I can field him even without house rules.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Great Crested Skinks
Sacred Spawnings of Sotek, Guardians of the Blood Shrines
Since the coming of Sotek spawnings of warlike Skinks with great red crests have become more common in the Temple Cities of Lustria, particularly among those who show strong devotion to the Serpent God. They are naturally more muscular than their brethren, and tend to be less adept at day to day tasks - far more suited for combat.
Great Crested Skinks can be represented using the rules for a Skink Cohort that have been upgraded with Poisoned Attacks. Skink Cohorts cannot take Kroxigor as unit upgrades and gain the following rules for +2pt per model.
Great Crest: Spawnings bearing great crests are stronger than regular skinks and more resolute in the face of danger. Models with this rule gain +1T and +1Ld
Lustrian Short Spears: Smaller and lighter than the spears used by Saurus, these weapons are also sturdier than Javelins. Models can use Lustrian Short Spears as either Spears or as Lustrian Javelins, however when used as Javelins they gain the Slow to Fire rule
Spawn of Sotek: Models with this rule gain Hatred (Skaven)

Design Notes: These guys are almost on par with Saurus for points, so I don't think it's too much. I really like the imagery of ranked up Skinks with spears, and these guys are supposed to be combat skinks so yeah... I think they're okay. One thing I found funny is that Quick To Fire and Slow To Fire do not counteract one another, so a weapon can have both and be entirely functional! Sounds silly, but I think it makes sense when you don't look at the actual names of the rules. They're small and lightweight and can be thrown quickly like javelins (thus Quick To Fire) but when the enemy is bearing down on them they form ranks and use them as spears (thus Slow to Fire).
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Priest of Chotec
    Pyromancers of the Volcanic Isles
Legends abound about the fire-wielding servants of Chotec that inhabit the Fuming Serpent and Spitting Serpent isles. So great is their mastery of fire that even battle mages of the Bright College of the Empire would struggle to overcome them. Each Isle has its specialty, the Fuming Serpent priests manipulating fire to the benefit of their allies and the Spitting Serpent priests smite their foes with righteous flames.
A Priest of Chotec can be represented by a Level 2 Skink Priest with all the usual options.
A Priest of Chotec gains the following rules for an additional 25pts
Blessing of The Sun God: All friendly units with the Cold-Blooded special rule within 6" of a Priest of Chotec gain a 5+ Ward Save against Flaming attacks. This cannot be improved in any way. If the model would otherwise have a different Ward Save use the better save.
Specialist Pyromancer: Priests of Chotec do not choose their spells as a normal wizard does. Instead, when writing your army roster choose one of the following specialties -
Spitting Serpent: Spitting Serpent priests devastate the enemy from afar. The Priest of Chotec knows The Burning Head, Piercing Bolts of Burning, and Flame Storm spells from the Lore of Fire. You may instead choose to forget TWO of these spells to know Fireball.
Fuming Serpent: Fuming Serpent priests augment their friends and hex their foes. The Priest of Chotec knows the Cascading Fire-Cloak, Flaming Sword of Rhuin and Fulminating Flame Cage spells from the Lore of Fire. You may instead choose to forget TWO of these spells to know Fireball.

Design Notes: I loved the old Sacred Host rules by Andy Hoare, mainly because it let us play with spells we weren't usually allowed to have. Given the recent trend with Warlocks, Dragon Mages and such similar things to have predefined spells I thought I'd give it a whirl. Not sure about the points cost, and not sure if they're really worth it given the saturation of spellcasting Lizardmen tend to lean towards could lead to a power dice drought.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Biqicuatectzin High Priest of Hexoatl
Wielder of Flames and Storms, Aide to Aki-Pterixx
Biqicuatectzin was spawned and raised in Hexoatl, spending much of his life under the tutelage of the Priesthood. Despite his excitable and clumsy nature he has become a respected High Priest in his own right, and given the role of Aide to Aki-Pterixx - a great honour. In his quest he became privy to the secrets of the Volcanic Isles and wields both Fire and Heavens magic, but this newfound skill is not as easy to command as he had hoped.
Biqicuatectzin can be represented by a Level 2 Skink Priest equipped with a Dragonbane Gem.
Biqicuatectzin gains the following rules for an additional 70pt
Blessing of the Sun God: As per Priest of Chotec
High Priest: Biqicuatectzin is a High Priest of Hexoatl and has prodigious magical ability. Biqicuatectzin is a Level 3 Wizard.
Fire and Ice: Biqicuatectzin knows many secrets of magic - both the skills he was raised with and the power he learned under the tutelage of the Priests of Chotec. When choosing spells Biqicuatectzin chooses his spells from the Lore of Heavens. Once you have chosen your spells from the Lore of Heavens choose a second set of spells from the Lore of Fire as though you are choosing spells for a different Wizard. Biqicuatectzin knows both sets of spells.
Sun and Moon: Managing to control two of the Winds of Magic is a difficult feat, and one does not always get their way when trying to force their hand. Different winds react to different circumstances, and the sun and moon can quickly change the flow of magic. Each magic phase roll a D6. If you roll above the current turn number then Biqicuatectzin must use spells from the Lore of Fire. If you roll equal to or below the current turn number then Biqicuatectzin must use spells from the Lore of Heavens.

Design Notes: Ok I'm going a bit left field with the rules here but I wanted some way of showing that his powers change depending on the sun and moon - thus the turn based power shift. It will make a bit more sense when the story is done.

I'm currently in the progress of updating these to Age of Sigmar Warscrolls. 8th ed rules are still there, but in spoilers so it doesn't get too cluttered.

EDIT 1: Szeratops is up. One rule is obscured because it is something of a spoiler. All shall be revealed once I write that part of my story!

Do you actually reform the unit into a line, or is that just fluff ?
    If so...
Does the rally to form a defensive line ability also have a 10" range ?

I forgot AoS has very literal ruling and allows for funny things to happen!

Ok this rule should read - Instinctive Defense: Szeratops rallies nearby soldiers in defense of a key leader, asset or objective. When Szeratops uses this ability choose a friendly HERO, a building occupied by friendly units, or a scenario objective (if objectives are being used) that is within 10" of Szeratops. All SERAPHON units within 5" of the target ignore the Rend characteristic of any attacks that target them and may re-roll failed save rolls of 1 until the beginning of the controlling player's next Command Phase.

    EDIT: Updated the warscroll.
