So following on from my previous post about lists, it turns out the escalation thing that is kicking off at my local GW is actually going to be much lower points than I presumed. This throws a spanner in my works somewhat. The odd points values is also going to mess me with! For the 700 points, only one battleline is going to be required. I am torn on which way to go with this. Here are a couple of potential lists: Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Skink Starpriest (100) Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 10 x Skinks (80) - Boltspitters & Star Bucklers Battalions Firelance Starhost (60) Total: 700/700 I like this one as it should be quite move-y, but I think that using almost 10% of the list points on a battalion is quite a lot. So I am considering something with a focus more on the Warriors instead: Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Skink Starpriest (100) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260) - War Spear Battleline 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Lances 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Lances Units 3 x Ripperdactyl Riders (140) Total: 700/700 This list has about 12 less total wounds than the other. I really don't know where my focus should be on a smaller point based game. Note: For this list I would need to buy some Riders and get them done in time, but I think it would be worth it. Open to any ideas on this one at all! Flatten it and start again if you have to! Once I have the 700 list locked down I will start adding to it to get to the 1100 point list - don't yet know the rules as to if the units have to carry over or not. There will be 3 weeks per tier, so enough time to paint anything I need to. Minor issue is that I think this is starting in 2 weeks, so need to get moving on the painting!
And is this route insane...? Leaders Skink Starpriest (100) Skink Priest (100) - Cloak of Feathers Battleline 5 x Saurus Guard (100) 5 x Saurus Guard (100) Behemoths Bastiladon (300) Total: 700/700 Buff Bastiladon with Mystic Shield + reroll failed saves (is that still a thing?) and then have the Guards stand there looking pretty and watching the Bastiladon stomp...?
For the third list I would deop the priest and put in a scar-vet on cold one. Just for the command ability. Even oldblood on foot would be helpful here. I honestly like the first list out of the three of them. The battalion will be worth it in the end I think.
Interesting, yeah I do think I will try out the first list - that third one is just really tempting because I don't know if anyone will be setup to counter something like that at such low points. I have never played these people though, so I don't want to be "that guy" - I also won't want to rock in and get steamrolled. This will be my first proper game of AoS after the demo battle. Mostly I have just done a lot of reading. I have also received confirmation that the start of this is March 29th, so I really have my work cut out to get these painted now - just hope my second SC box turns up this week or I am really screwed. I don't know yet if models have to carry over from one tier to the next, I am going to presume not for the time being... In which case my 1100 point list would look something like this: Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Skink Starpriest (100) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260) - General - War Spear Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Blades 20 x Saurus Warriors (200) - Spears Behemoths Bastiladon (300) Total: 1100/1100 And then my 1500 point list something like this: Allegiance: Seraphon Leaders Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (320) - General Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260) - War Spear Skink Starpriest (100) Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Blades 20 x Saurus Warriors (200) - Spears 10 x Skinks (80) - Meteoric Javelins & Star Bucklers Behemoths Bastiladon (300) Total: 1500/1500 Might adjust the knight/warrior ratio a bit.
This should be interesting, I agree that there wouldn't be a lot of counter options for list 3 at 700 points, would definitely be fun to try out!
I'll get the lay of the land in week 1 with the Firelance list and then potentially try that out if we're able to change lists during the thing. The guy running it is pretty chill so I can't see it being a problem.
I need to come up with an army name apparently... Don't think "Lizard on Lizard Action" is going to pass!
All good... I like Carnage and the Meteors for obvious space-related-paint-theme. The Scales of Justice is also amazing.
Looks like my first opponent is going to be playing Thunderscorn, I know nothing about them. Anyone with more ideas think my Firelance list above is still a good call for 700 points?
Bastiladon list? Or scrap it and come up with something else altogether. He's what I could have available: 40x Warriors 20x Skinks 15x Knights 20x Chameleons (maybe, would need to crack the heck on and convert them) 1x Bastiladon 1x Old one on carno 1x Scar vet on carno 1x Scar vet on cold one 1x Star Priest There's also potential for converting a remaining few warriors and skinks into something else.
Alternatively, it's almost pay day so I could probably grab a couple more boxes of something without attracting wife aggro.
Bastiladon list is good, but you will want to be able to out maneuver them. Skinks and skink chief, or even razordons with the bastiladons woukd be helpful.
Sadly the Bastiladon is still in his box so I'm not going to have it done in time for the first game - so going to give the Firelance list a crack and see how I get on. Feeling I am going to get my ass handed to me, but should be fun regardless.
Poor attitude. You've already lost. Replace it with a steg and maybe drop a unit of knights for two units of skinks.
Hard words this morning Bowser, I know it's Friday but c'mon! Luckily the game was pushed back a week, so I might just have time to get it done!
Thing with Ogres is low model count but they hit hard so staying away and peppering them with shots is key, Basilidon and Chamo skinks, do the models have to be painted?
To be fair @Bowser he is right, pull yourself together man, beer , snips, glue, music and go build the Basilidon, airbrush it basic will take what an hour, you can do it easily, sod the house move your wife can do that
Yeah, at this point I would need to finalise the list and target my painting pretty hard, but it'd certainly be do-able. Chamo skinks are going to be easy enough. I'll have a play with a list and see what I can come up with!
