This topic popped up on the WhatsApp group, and I don't really know what the right answer is. Basically, does the +3 movement of Fangs of Sotek get doubled when you march with a unit of Saurus Warriors? My thought would be Yes, because you only add after you multiple when bonuses are happening simultaneously. Since the +3 movement is happening at the top of the turn, I would argue when you go to double your "movement characteristic" in the movement phase, your movement characteristic has already been adjusted to be 8 (5 +3 from FoS). Thoughts?
Unless it has been faqed or specified differently in a way that i'm not aware of, it should be so. in the first turn, the move of the unit is 8", not 5"
Totally, the question is does the +3 movement get doubled if marching with the Saurus warrior drummer. Basically would it be movement 16 if marching (8x2) or 13 (5x2 plus3) on the first turn.
I would also play it that way, just to make the most out of it, but the way things go these days.... They'll probably FAQ this. Multiplying added bonuses is not intended.
ABILITIES Q: If two abilities affect a value, and one adds a modifier to the value and the other either multiplies or divides the value, do you apply the modifiers before or after multiplying or dividing the value? A: Apply the modifiers after multiplying or dividing the value. So you both know that you shouldn't, but you're gonna cheat anyway because it suits you better. Good attitude, way to keep up that lizard player reputation
There, question solved. Good thing to keep in mind (and at hand) for tournaments, because I'm sure that also other armies could have similar things.
Yeah, the "you both know that you shouldn't" requires an effective knowledge of the subject, and in this case there wasn't. To call "cheaters" is not nice.
True, kind of an ass move on my part. I've just seen too many examples of Seraphon/Lizardmen players "bending" the rules. But you literally said you know it wasn't intended, but just play for advantage anyway untill you get called out. Why not just play fair if you know?
Thats a good question: My first impulse is to play friendly, and I do so when playing against my friend (90% of my games) but with all the new armies getting stronger and stronger in comparison, and the meta in the store getting more and more "WAAC" I tend to see it this way: It is GW's job to make the rules as clear as they can. If they are unclear I will interpret them to my advantage (always ready to discuss them though), especially if it is something as harmless as a few inches of movement. It's not like we are a mighty melee alpha strike army. That being said: That is when talking about rules that aren't clear. I made two mistakes in this thread: I forgot the rules _are_ clear here, and I was too aggressive in my language toward you. I am sorry for that, I admit I was a bit angry about being called a cheater, and I am normally known for being a rules lawyer.
This really took off in a direction I didn't expect. Obviously I'd like to play the rule correctly... that's why I asked the question in the first place.
