I'll have to check those out.

The Belgariad was the first "epic fantasy" series that I ever read as a kid. Loved it at the time.

    All hail Belgarath!

    Loooong list.

    Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern (most of the series, though the last half-dozen books were a little meh)
Greyhawk novels (Gygax - yes, that Gygax)
    DragonLance novels (Weis and Hickman)
    Forgotten Realms novels (varies)
Spelljammer's Cloakmaster Cycle (6 books that I recommend if you can find them)
Sailing to Sarantium and Lord of Emperors by Guy Gavriel Kay (Not-quite-Byzantium not-quite-history)
The Black Company (Glen Cook - original trilogy was good; book 4 was kind of meh; I liked the Books of the South, but not everyone does)
Villains by Necessity by Eve Forward (IF you can find it, I highly recommend it - villains try to keep the world from becoming too good)
oh, and Batman: No Man's Land. HIGHLY recommended. Gotham becomes a post-apoc wasteland for much of the novel after a quake levels the city.

This is NOT everything, I read a LOT. I HAVE read a lot. History (of lots of subjects), sci-fi, fantasy, all sorts of stuff.

I was first thinking that you had to be older than me, remembering that I watched the BBC series as a kid. Then I remember they made some new movies like 10-15 years ago, I guess you mean those?

    Back on topic:
My favorite series is "Robert Jordan - Wheel of Time", read through that one several times. Once for each new book that was released, and a few times after Brandon Sanderson completed it.

Here is also a few other authors I have been reading books from the last few years, in no specific order. Note some of them also have other series than those I listed but decided to only list those that stuck most with me, though the others were a good read as well.

Patrick Rothfuss - Kingkiller Chronicle (though time will show if he ever finishes the series...)
    Brandon Sanderson - Mistborn
Douglas Hulick - Tales of the Kin (Warning, according to the author there wont be a third book finishing the series, though the two first are a good read)
Joe Abercrombie - The First Law series (note, these are written for adult readers).
Leigh Bardugo - Six of Crows series

Not exactly Sci-fi, but closer to that than fantasy
    Dmitry Glukhovsky - Metro series

Like I said above in my choices, I'm with you on Wheel of Time and Kingkiller Chronicles!

I read the The First Law series, I thought the first was good, but the second and third didn't do it for me, was a little disappointed.

I'll need to check out the other books.

Ooookay... Well, some people have already mentioned a few classics. Narnia Chronicles, and of course Tolkein's stuff (but NOT the Silmarillon - seriously, I'm a HISTORY major, with a BA and everything, and I still found that boring).

Um... WOULD people want suggestions on interesting History books or just Sci-fi/Fantasy?

The Elven Ship and The Disappearing Dwarf by James Blaylock (old novels, but some of my favorites when I was a kid)
The Sword of Knowledge by C.J.Cherryh (these are kind of historical-fantasy-weird, but I like them.

The Metro series also always gets a +1. Nice setting for the "nuclear armageddon" scenario, great books, great games.

When talking about classics (1988): Tad Williams - Memory, Sorrow and Thorn Trilogy (first book is "The Dragonbone Chair"). Really a rather slow burn, but great payoff and nice worldbuilding with some unique elements and takes on more common fantasy tropes.

Oh mahrlect! YES! Neverwhere is an amazing book! So is Stardust (the book is just as good as the film, even better).

By the way, if you can find it, there was a BBC TV series of Neverwhere that was also amazing,
