Iam new to the web site and would like some advice on this color sceme that Iam experimenting with I got the inspiration from the red eye frog.
Do you think the armor should be highlighted further I will be happy with any advice as I have not painted this style of figure in years.

Welcome to the board! I edited your post to include [pic] tags so your images show up, then you will get more responses. We don't use img tags due to spambots.

The skink looks good, but I think you are right that the scales should have a slightly different shade. I'm definitely in the camp where scales should be a different colour to skin, but it can work with just a few shades difference still, I just think they need to stand out a bit more. Or maybe for this scheme, getting the gap between the scales a bit darker would look good, add in some black ink or wash.

thanks again for your inputs I tried what Strewart suggested
    DSCN2010.jpg
I was not that happy with it I think the scales looked washed out or the poor skink was sick.
So next I went turtle on his butt.

what do you think. I might give that red racing strip a go on another model it "makes them go faster so I have been told". just to see how it works

I think he looks perfect just like that. It looks natural, and there's still plenty of color from his crest and eyes. If you add more red to it, the eyes won't stand out any more, and the model won't be as striking in my opinion.

maybe bring in some of the darker orange from the crest
and use it to lightly highlight the scales. ;)

Welcome! That is fantastic work, it is so amazingly detailed and very striking to me, and is perfect as is. It's realistic and stands out, without being too bright, quite an impressive model here. Keep it up. :D

I was thinking I am kinda happy with this I can add variations to the skink unit by varing the hightlight and shading of the scales to give variety to the unit some with more orange darker browns black patterns etc. Ill finish the unit and post the pics. For the bases I am waiting for my supplies to come from england and I have been crusing the web for jungle floor ideas. Again thanks every body this is one of the best forums I have been involved with.

Hmm I actually quite like the look it got with the ink. :) However, seeing the turtle scheme after it, that looks much better, great idea! An army of those guys will look very impressive.

I was thinking that I would try to capture the look of the Johnson River crocodile (for any Non Australians a fresh water croc )white belly to a slightly redish buff with dark patterned scales. I am still looking but I want the large predator look for them I might see what other crocs are out there.

From my surfing for jungle pics for my own army,
I have found most jungle floors to be covered in dead
leaves, moss, ferns, a few stones, mushrooms, logs,
tree roots, and posibly some small tropical plants. ;)

That skink looks awesome. :D Keep it as it is. As for the Saurus, I've had a look at that croc, and personally, I think you might want to have a look at other crocs first, or make a test model in the colour of that croc, just incase it turns out that it looks good. :)

Very cool looking unit, great work! It was definitely a good idea going for turtle-shell scales.
