Hey everyone, just wanted to share that about 90 items from the above armies have been moved to last chance in the GW web store. Looks like Bretts are losing it all, but all six of them are dropping a lot of kits.
This is the most stupid move to do: discontinuing models. This was the actual big fear about AoS and everyone chilled when they saw nothing disappeared. No-one really cared about the rules change, all in all you can always play with the old rules... This is going to get even more people on the anti-AoS group (or the team meh by @NIGHTBRINGER )
I always figured that the purge was coming. The initial AoS release created a false and inflated sense of security. The rumours always said that the purge was on its way. The old world just doesn't fit nicely into AoS... plus the old models probably don't sell very well. Team Meh is for the AoS models themselves. I still maintain that AoS as a whole belongs in team "I threw up in my mouth a little" HAHAHA I'm curious to see how AoS will fair in the long run. Will it survive?
Well, if you look at it, the sales increase when GW bring out new kits (I say my own opinion, I didn´t read any statistics or anything). I think the seraphon sales did get higher with the re-release (which was only a repack with new bases). The more i look at it I see people buying the armies that GW updates (for now only khorne and sigmarines, and some Seraphon). If they were´t happy with the sales of one army they could just update it and everyone would go like crazy to buy it, instead of throwing the whole army model range into oblivion (to not say something a bit more unpleasant to read). Im sure, 99.9%, that, as I said, if the tomb kings (and all the last-opportunity section) had been updated the sales would have HUGELY increased. So yes, I think it AoS will survive only because GW wants it to survive. I mean that people buy what GW update, and I understand it perfectly, because updates are always nice and welcomed. But well, it seems it´s easier to throw everything away and do more bloodbound than spending one week on swapping the bases... Oh, and I forgot, the bigger the kits the better, and with many useless extra bits to excuse the price of 45€ for 5 guys...
That's sad beyond any reasonable limit. I know I should be happy that we've been saved, but my old, belowed world, is really crumbling away...
I completely agree. It depends on how the numbers stack up. I think GW is giving AoS a very big push and will tolerate some slow sales BUT that tolerance has a limit. If the market doesn't adequately throw their money at AoS it will be scraped. The big question is how well is AoS doing? No one outside of GW really knows... it's speculation at best. It will be interesting to see what the yearly reports have to say. Sad indeed. The old world dies and is replaced with fantasy space marines.
I see myself panicking pretty soon and buying way too much from GW. I still have to buy huge part of lizardmen army (Frog, another steg, few boxes of terradon/rippers, another carnosaur, saurus characters..) and the question is if ebay will save me. That is also the thing - people rather buy models on ebay, since they are usually cheaper than on GW store and once you buy your army, you can play with it for years without necessity of buying anything. But it is sad indeed.
Worst case scenario guys look at the group we have. We have amazing sculpters invested with 3d printing etc I think fantasy will survive through the loyal men and women of the old world. There will be alternative models to buy but that is worst case. It sucks as they are going to ruin the fantasy side of it in my eyes. Shame but we will live on guys
It's a real bummer. The Old World was so cool. I wish it could still exist. It's so much lore to just throw out. It's so odd also, that it is still being used in popular videogames and boardgames but GW chose to throw it out. I still hope that AoS is a success for GW. I don't like that they had to blow it all up and I really don't think they did. But here we are. From what I can see, AoS IS doing what WFB couldn't: bring in new players. I suppose that is good for the longevity of the company and maybe one day GW will indeed bring back traditional fantasy battle in the form of the soon to be relaunched specialist games or something. GW is still the premier wargame model maker and I'd hate to see the company go under.
Not sure if I posted this here yet, but in case anyone needs it here is the link to Hoard of Bits. They got a large inventory of bits and stuff from all the GW ranges including 40K, and many other miniature ranges. Not sure how much longer some of the older warhammer models will still be on the site though, so if you need any specific bits order them now! They still have plenty of Tomb Kings, Empire, and Bretonnian bits to go around. I went and bought a bunch of extra Bretonnian lances because I can't cast them to use on my future resin-cast knight projects.
I'm loving the use of "old world" here to to refer to classic Warhammer. Maybe we can rename the "Lizardmen" and "Age of Sigmar" forums, and call them "The Old World" and "The New World" instead? ...of course, that does make AoS sound much more exciting...
Thanks for the advanced warning @eron12 . I need to look over the disappearing kits and see what I may need. I decided a while ago not to make new purchases until I thinned out my unfinished model collection. I figured I could take my time getting the models for my planned Tomb Guard conversion now Tomb Guard are very hard to find. Since I was planning to incorporate zombies from every army into my multicultural undead horde, I need to see if there are any disappearing kits I can't live without. I also want to try some skeleton kit bashes. I figure Elf torsos with boney arms and legs would make good elf skeletons with a relatively straightforward kit bash. Just need to put the right helmets on the skulls. Dwarfs have to be zombies, not skeletons. I'm sure if I can make an undead Dwarf still look like a Dwarf sans beard. Beards and skeletons don't mix.
Yeah, that's pretty much the end of my (still vague) plan for a future army of wood elves. .. Luckily, I already have a sufficiently good number of dwarfs, but I don't have all the heroes and some units are not so big. It sucks.
Yeah, especially massive games likes CA's Total War Warhammer. It obviously has huge charm, but GW is just to blind to see..
Considering the development time for a game, I am pretty certain that the work started before GW even started considering End of Times.
