Just hoping to spark up a little 8 edition discussion on the forum. Not sure how many of us 8th edition players are left.

The army is obviously built around Lord Kroak and his Temple Guard deathstar. The idea with the army is to absolutely dominate the chaff war via plenty of chaff options and a multitude of anti-chaff strategies (Kroak spell, skinks and rippers).

The list features a pair of Scar-vet cowboys that are placed in the Cold One Cav unit for missile/spell protection, but they can obviously run solo when needed. They act as the can openers of the army, taking down the big nasties that would otherwise cause the rest of the army problems.

The ripper chief and ripper units are there to provide some speed and take down fragile units: fast cavalry, weakened units, character hunting, warmachines. The two units also provide a pair of blot toads that the chief can make use of.

The flying skink priest is there as a delivery system for the Kroak bomb.

The pair of Salamanders are there to trim down opposing large units and can be used as makeshift chaff or chaff hunters.

The saurus warriors and especially the temple guard are the dominate blocks that make up the army. After a little Salamander action, the temple guard should be able to handle most units. Having chaff dominance should allow this unit to take advantage of favourable match-ups and positions.

Overall, I'm hoping that it is a fun little army to try out. What do you guys think? What match ups or armies will the list struggle against? What is it missing? It's not a serious competition list, but let's have some 8th edition discussion.

I ran a similar list for my last battle it worked quite well. :D

as for weaknesses, try and keep your priest alive as long as possible.

Agreed... that priest is the key to keeping the list dynamic. :)

It's kind of fitting that the last of the "old guard" are the two Slann of the forum.

Although I think @hardyworld might still be playing 8th as well...
Sadly I rarely see him around the site all that often.

You're right, but as you say, he isn't online here very often. He did post within the last week, but unfortunately his activity is few and and far between.

I still play 8th, or played in Poland, and I´m currently searching a place where somebody plays 8th. But anyways I´m of no help of this topic because I rarely thought tactically and lost about 80% of my games :joyful:

Excellent... good to have you on board. Definitely don't be shy to start up some 8th edition threads/conversations. The more 8th edition content the better! :):)
You never know, it's always good to put forth some ideas... it helps stir up conversation. :):)

It's good to know that others are keeping the game alive.

I am still here as well! The last game of 8th i played is also months ago, but i still like to play it as a bit of something else next to 9th and 40k. Dont think i can count myself into the old guard, but this forum is easily the most friendly one i have ever found, so i wont be leaving in a hurry.

I think that you have a pretty solid and decent list put together. The Other Trickster's Shard has always felt like a bit of a one trick pony to me, in to many games, it just does nothing as you are dependent on your opponent to bring certain things to make it work. It is one of the few items that works against the Unkillable BSB though, so that is certainly a plus.

Also @Xornin , welcome and i hope you will enjoy your time here! Do you have any lists already built, what sort of army do you want to play?

I still play 8th (new to the Forum). I know this thread is a good few months old but I have a 3000 pt game coming up and wanted to try a Kroak list (below). It would be great for any comments or suggestions.

    Kroak

Scar Vet - BSB, Cold one, light armour, Dragon Helm, Dawsontone, Iron Curse Icon, great weapon

Scar Vet - Cold one, Armour of Destiny, great weapon

3 x L1 Skink Priests - one with Cloak of Feathers

Saurus Warriors x 40 - hand weapon and shield, full command

    4 units of Skink skirmishers x 10

Temple guard x 36 - Standard bearer and champion, Razor Standard

    Chameleon skinks x 6

    Chameleon skinks x 5

    Bastiladon - with solar engine

Cold one cav x 5 - musician and standard bearer

3 units of Salamander hunting pack x1 - each with additional handler

The basic plan is to whittle the enemy down with Kroak and salamanders, while screening my two hordes, who will then deal with what's left. Bastiladon to support the hordes, and offer some defence vs purple sun, the Cold one cav are to protect the scar vets until they are needed (will put one in each horde) and then support.
