So, except for once at the beginning of each alternate game turn (enemy's turn) you get to choose which combat to complete first - Yes, little saurus warrior, you have the initiative. (Thank you Sigmar Claus!)

    Discussion:
If there are 5 melees on the table -
When would you take the initiative?
    When would you sacrifice it?

Three Headings: (I will summarise discussion points back here periodically)

Initiative critical melee. Take initiative at all costs.
    • Wary Skink chaff move - possibly robs enemy combat block of 2 rounds of combat
    • combat where enemy numbers can be reduced such that there are none left to "step up" in their pile in phase. (there are less model remaining than space for them to step up into.)

    Initiative important.
    • neutralise opponent's wary chaff

    Initiative desirable but not needed
    • Have a big block, can take a few wounds. Yawn.
    • have a big regenerating space frog.

    Other examples, please.

In the sense that RSF can just summon more?

In the sense that if you don't kill Kroak outright (wounds inflicted during turn + 1xD6 = less than 11) he has full 'wounds" next turn.

He would need to take 5 wounds to have a 1/6 chance of popping. :nailbiting:

I would add that summoned units informally go down a priority level for giving initiative to.

Just double check the third paragraph under glorious victory. You start with three models, summon 21, then lose 21. Your models lost in the game to starting models ratio will be 700%. If you play to the bitter end it is irrelevant. If you need to resolve the game early then you lose.

This should be a factor in deciding whether to summon, and what to summon. Summoning one stegadon is a lot lower risk than summoning 20 saurus warriors.

Set up should probably with whatever core you want (therefore groups with a lot of ablative wounds). Summoning should be of versatile elites of low model count or exactly what you need during that phase.

I need an accountant to work out if this puts a practical limit on how much you would choose to deploy, or if it automatically disadvantages elite only lists.

Now stop this AoS distraction. I've got an 8th edition story to write.
