Are mounts with Scaly Skin considered to have Barding for the purposes of provided armor saves to their riders? - Gork
Just to be clear: Cold Ones are Thick Skinned, improving armor save 2 places which is the equivalent of barding -- they do no have "Scaly Skin" There are mounts with a Scaly Skin, but they are Monster mounts that can be targeted and killed separate from the rider. Scaly Skin gives an armor save to the mounts, but does not improve the save of the rider any more than riding any other monster (charter on a monster does get +1 to its save for being mounted).
To throw a spanner in the works, doesn't the Storm of Magic Cold Ones (war beast unit) have a scaly skin save?
If I recall the Troglodon has a combined profile... (like cold ones), And the Carnsaur counts as a monster soo I think It just grants +1 armor ???
Irrelevant. The Storm of Magic Cold Ones cannot be taken as mounts. No, they aren't. Why not? Same reason for everything else in the book--because that's the way it was written.
They're the same thing. So yes, they can be. But the point I was making is that "scaly skin" has nothing to do with a rider's armour. We could have a fantastic monster that has a 3+ Scaly Skin and a nice big howdah in which the crew gets to sit and be protected. But you put a character on top and he simply hangs off the side of the beast, refusing to use the howdah. Instead, he receives +1 to armour for being up high.
