Anything Imperial that is too sunny compared to their 40k work can be written off as Imperial propaganda or wish fulfilment. In 40k, humanity is the creepy and weird species, old and decayed, mad and ranting. Tau is there as the bright newcomer, to be schocked with whatever the hell is going on elsewhere in the galaxy.
