I started a new Seraphon army this week after misguidedly throwing my old Lizardmen army away over 10 years ago. Since then I've dipped in and out of the hobby but never managed to collect an entire army. Turns out I need dinosaurs in my life!

I bought the 'get started' set because of the savings it offered (basically free Saurus Warriors and cold one Knights)

On looking in the Seraphon Battletome I loved the idea of the Thubderbeast Host so built the Troglodon first and the Oldblood on foot.

Looking through the geomagnetic (sorry- inter) web. I settled on a yellow and stone look for my mounts.

The Troglodon was first to have a go...

Primed in Corax White spray and then base coated in Averland Sunset (the Worcester sauce was for dinner, not painting).

Next was a solid wash of Casandora Yellow.

Next step will be layering Yriel Yellow on the 'skin' layers and washing the deep recesses again.

For the scales on the Troglodon's back I'm going to prep them as a dark grey stone colour before using a sponge to build up red, yellow and white in a 'magma' effect.

I'm not sure how I'm going to paint the frill on his back and head yet. Suggestions welcome!

The picture I stole all this from is a solar engine bastilodon (I've not included the picture because it's not mine but googling 'Lizardmen paint schemes' and looking at the images make it pretty clear which one it is)

Any thoughts or ideas? Still not sure on the colours of my Seraphon themselves.

I think going for a fire or magma look for the whole army would look quite good on the table. Or maybe a fiery look for the big guys and a smokey look for the troops and smaller monsters.

Or perhaps fiery look for ground troops and smokey look for air support

Another day, another coat of paint.

Last night I layered the Troglodon with Yriel Yellow.

I had to resort to dry rushing in a lot of places because of brush access; this possibly should have been painted in sections.

Today I'm hoping to do a final highlight (Yriel yellow/skull white) and wash the skin before basecoating the scales in black.

Nice yellow/magma idea :D as for the head etc, have you thought of simply adding some darker/lighter streaks or other motives in a couple places? might help some parts of the model stand out…

Hmm, well yellow, black grey work quite nicely together. I have to admit yellow probably my least favourite colour :p But it's looking good so far and I approve of buying the start collecting kit to make a trogloodon having done it myself XD.
