So my local shop has a monthly painting contest and I'm looking to steal the win this month. I recently got a hold of a nice tau army (worth 450, paid 200 cash), unpainted for the most part. While brainstorming, I realized the stealth suits look like freaking turrets from portal. I'm still pretty new at painting so I'm not sure how I would go about making that happen specifically. Here's what I have so far: 1x Stealthsuit - Primed WHITE My idea is to possibly cover up any spots with thinned White Scare and then very carefully go over it with Nuln Oil and then make the very center red. What else should I do? Thoughts? Suggestions?
1. Primed white 2. wash Nuln oil 3. relayer with screaming skull avoiding the deepest recess 4. relayer with white leaving a touch of screaming skull showing around the centre 5. apply red base 6. wash red with reikland fleshtone 7. reapply red leaving a thin reikland circle on the outer most edge 8. apply wild rider red in the centre of the red 9. glaze with bloodletter 10. edge highlight the top of the white armour with a very very thin runefang steel/white mix (30/70) be very sparing, just a dot here and there to give it a bit of sparkle. 11. look back in amazement at your achievement. 12. collect prize for winning comp.
Beautiful. When i did my nuln oil wash, I was trying really hard to do the recesses and JUST the recessess and then covering that over in white scar. It looks terrible lol. Screaming skull will work a lot better, i think.
Not to bash on the washing method, but personally, I don't use washes on my whites because it looks less clean in my experience. I just layer with light grey/very light grey/almost white/white, which I am very happy with. It's all a matter of opinion though.
That is a brilliant idea! You should post pictures of the work in progress, gives a better visual for people to help out. But @Crowsfoot seems to have this down!
