It is with great pride that I announce this next contest. This is our eight contest and our second October-November Contest.

Per our recent tradition, the last contest winner got to pick the Short Story Contest. @thedarkfourth put forth the excellent and put forth and excellent theme: "Freedom and Slavery"

    The Rules

-We would like you to try to keep your story between 500 and 2000 words. I am requiring that entries do not exceed 2400 words. This is counting title, poems, quotes, any add-ons. If I get a submssion that exceeds 2400 words, I will trim it till it meets the limit, and you may not like what I choose to cut.
-Your name must appear nowhere with the story. There is no point in having an anonymous competition based on skill if we know whose entry is whose.
-You must send your story via private message to Scalenex by midnight (US Central time) on Oct 31. .
-The story must be new. No dragging up a story you wrote months or years ago.
-No plagiarism. This means no stealing a story verbatim. You are free to use characters or settings from other works.
-The story must involve Lizardmen (or Seraphon or Salamanders) to some extant
-The story must stick roughly within the theme, at least a little.
-No comics or illustrations. This is a short story contest. Visuals are limited to fonts and text colors. We have regular contests for visual art.
-Only one entry allowed per person.
I will do my best to providing proofreading and general advise to writers who ask for it. Keep in mind there is usually a flood of entries coming in the last week, so the earlier you submit your piece to me, the easier it will be for me to help you.. @spawning of Bob is traditionally willing to give fellow writers advice as well, and you probably talk a lot of people into helping you if want.

Once again, the winner of this contest has the honor of choosing the next contest theme. Unless they don't want to it which I case I'll have to steal it from Slanputin or Bob come with something myself.

If you want to talk about the theme, your eagerness to write or read something. Please do so below!

This does sound like it will be a very entertaining theme. I can't wait to see where people go with this one.

Sounds interesting. A few ideas from the theme that could be explored

Lizardmen being enslaved by other races? (dark elves, chaos, chaos dwarfs...)
    ...enslaving races? (lobotomized humans...)
    ..."enslaving" other Lizardmen?
...as "slaves" to the Great Plan but fighting for "freedom" against chaos?
    ...revolution within the spawnings?

Lots of stuff to consider. This one will be interesting to watch.

Hmm, gonna have to avoid falling into just regurgitating some of the many bits and pieces i've done on R'ttig who while technically not a slave is still being imprisoned and forced to work against his will. This may be a tricky one for me. :p

Oh aye, that's his main plot motivation...which then gets a bit complicated (depending which version of R'ttig: Canon-verse (where he's already found how to escape), Animosity-verse (where his prison obtains its signature crack, he manipulates several characters to no avail, and ends up teaming up with a memory remnant of Whizz-Bang), or the Moulder Pitfighters-verse (where he can't locate the means of his escape and is forced to try something different.)) with time travel and manipulation, ghostly echoes, conversations with gods, and a team of mortal servants who pave the way for his freedom.

But nay, i'm not going to write about R'ttig, if only because it'd make it more obvious that it was my piece. He's also kinda busy watching those Western themed characters kill things whilst betting with those two Slann.

My real life is pretty busy and I've been neglecting my longer WIP pieces but I have an idea that's nagging at me to enter this contest.

Well, with the MP campaign going on, i've been aiming to write at least 150 words a night of fluff. As this is an update week for MP i'll probably write this compy piece or some Chaos Dwarf fluff.

    Keeping my fluff engine a-ticking.

One of Warden's suggestions gave me an idea.
It's cool, but very vague. The race against time will soon begin...

The inspiration defined itself into a formed idea.
The idea has been typed into a story.
The story has been submitted! :D

3 entries so far have been submitted so far. that bodes well because of our entries tend to come late, so I'll surprised if we don't get at least six. It's laundromat time so I'll see if I can get my own draft started

I got much of the story elements from musing on the topic at work. Cubicles are great for thinking about the themes of slavery and freedom.
