Hey as the title suggests what is your favorite music type. Be aware as a classical music nerd I don't know many of the less common ones so I will have an option for other. If there is a big one I missed please let me know, like I said I'm a total nerd so not that in touch with modern music trends. Also feel free to post examples of favorite songs etc!
To start this post off I will post one of my favorite songs. I would love to encourage people to listen to other people's favorite songs (though if it has cursing or inappropriate content please notify people) however if you listen to my song don't feel obligated to listen to the whole thing (it's like 13 mins). My favorite part is from 4 mins 21 secs- 5 mins 55 secs. It would be nice to start at beginning and listen through to that part but if you aren't up to 5 mins 55 secs then I would recommend start at 4 mins 21 secs-.
Where's post rock? Vaporwave? But yeah, I always feel like doing polls for music isn't really ideal since there's soo many different fandoms and genres, you're bound to miss things others would want. Even despite with help. Anyway, i can't stop listening to this as of late:
Movie and video game soundtracks all the way!!! I guess you could add in Country music. Not sure how many votes it will garner (Mrs. NIGHTBRINGER loves it), but it is a major genre of music.
I may or not know most of the lyrics (some parts are hard though) Also my favorite video game music is World Of Warcraft. That game I think overall has some of the greatest video game songs ever.
I like Evanescence, Nightwish, Birthday Massacre and things that Pandora finds me that are related to those three bands. New Wave/Heavy Metal fusion with soulful primary female vocals. Goth Metal. Pretty niche. I guess I like the New Wave part more than the metal part. I enjoy listening to New Wave for long periods of time. I am not a big fan of Heavy Metal in it's purest form unless I'm exercising. Maybe it counts as "post rock" or "vaporwave", those are the only genres on the poll list that I don't have a clear mental image of. EDIT: Okay I guess "vaporwave" is what I think of as "new wave" so I will change my vote from other to vaporwave.
Since it seems we agree on movie scores and video game music check this out. It's a compilation of a couple songs but it's really cool. There's alot of good World Of Warcraft music tell me what you guys think!
post rock is pretty much the combination of traditional rock and numerous amounts of other instruments/genres in order to explore themes that would've been hard otherwise. In general, they're often very evocative. one of my most favorite albums: one of my most favorite songs:
+1! If I had to pick a favourite genre it would definitely be between Trance - https://youtu.be/pcZUFJoTNck - and Movie/Videogame soundtracks (although they tend to be the more orchestral ones) - https://youtu.be/hb177jVUdlo Good choices, although surely if you’re going to post stuff from Rogue One, it has to be Your Father Would Be Proud!? I have to say, although John William’s Star Wars Soundtrack is and will always be the greatest soundtrack of all time, a lot of my favourite Star Wars pieces are actually by some of the other composers. His stuff is brilliant, but I don’t think any of it packs quite the raw emotion as this (really gets going at 2:24): https://youtu.be/uu4Ic5c1hMo
I sort of take it for granted, but yeah I like movie soundtracks. In general, movie quality has been on a downward slide for the last twenty years, but even most crummy movies have solid soundtracks. If a movie has a bad soundtrack, than everything on the movie is off cough cough Suicide Squad cough cough.
I generally listen to a lot of different genres, but usually I don't think about what kind of genres I'm listening to, it's just whatever sounds nice. For instance I've had many times where I only liked a single song from an album or artist. I don't really think I have a favorite piece of music, I might but that one I'm just not sharing with anyone and it's kinda weird because I actually don't want to listen to it. What I can share is a couple of my newer favorite songs (I have many 'favorites'): I'm not sure what genres they are though, I'm guessing pop
Not sure what genre this song is apart of, but i love it. The violin does so much, and it makes the song sound both sorrowful and joyful at the same time.
