Hey everyone, first time poster! so i've recently gotten back into warhammer and decided to attempt to paint up some of my old lizardmen! just wondering what you guys think of my converted oldblood, bear in mind the photos are'nt great and he was painted with some old old citadel paints ( i actually had to stir water into lots they were completely dried up haha) The conversion is pretty basic, just an old metal temple guard body with the head sawn off. the foot was bent into place so hes stepping on a skull, i wanted an ornate headpiece as befits his rank - this was sourced from the saurus cavalry set. apart from that i swapped his arm for a sword, stuck on a shoulder pad and gave him a lick of paint. i stuck with the GW colour scheme but toned it down, i was going for a slightly more muted dark bluey grey. Please tell me what you think!
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD I like it. The colors are hard to discern due to the pic quality, but the conversion work looks good, unique. Great job and thanks for sharing! Now lets see the rest of the army.
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD Hmmm... I lightened it up a bit in Photoshop.... Does this look about right ? By the way... Prety kool Old Blood Conversion.
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD thats a bit better! ive been messing it around on photoshop but cant get it to look right, guess il take some natural light photos tomorrow with the rest of the army (as of now a total of 3 models) aiming to repaint a unit of saurus, various skink chiefs and some old metal terradons asap
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD Great stuff, its funny how models with very little conversion look better than heavily converted ones. Love the paintjob too.
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD Thanks everyone! just thought id put up some pics in natural light, it now looks a bit harsh but oh well also shown is a saurus and skink, excuse the sloppy painting theyre only test models.. (also very aware that skinks cant have blowpipes and shields.. i dont actually play the game though) next model to paint will probably be a skink priest, i was thinking of having him albino, sort of like the small lizard on the GW slann palanquin. any thoughts? oh, and the shield was painted up from chaos black mixed with goblin green (or whatever the equivalents are), gradually adding more goblin green and highlighting using thin obvious brushstrokes, then adding some scorpion green (or equivalent) and finally adding a bit of dheneb stone to the mix. the whole thing was then glazed back woth goblin green mixed with chaos black and lots of water. it was easy enough to do on this shield because the metal temple guard shields have more spiked scales on the shields than saurus. sorry i dont know the names of the current paint range!
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD Your sloppy painting is better than my attentive painting Looks good. I may have to try to find a metal temple guard.
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD These look fantastic, and I love the shading on the shield. I might have to try to copy the star pattern on the shield shading.
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD thanks everyone! i dug out my skink priest so hes ready to repaint whenever i get a chance the paintjob is ok but im repainting my guys to be a bit darker than my original hawk turquoise scheme. this guy will probabyly be painted albino for those who are interested this is how he looks now, il put up pics after his makeover
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD / (RE)PAINTING BLOG I'd trade my NIB skink priest blister for one that looks that nice any day of the week.
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD / (RE)PAINTING BLOG thanks newscales!! do you have any ideas for the colours on his robes when i repaint him? id like to have a natural look so nothing really garish, but for his skin it willl either be fully albino ir just push the highlights to extreme white... so looking for some warm colours that might look good with that.. possibly cream robes with purple edging like a roman toga type deal? anyone have suggestions please let me know
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD / (RE)PAINTING BLOG Wow great job on the painting and the conversion work on the oldblood. He looks really nice.
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD / (RE)PAINTING BLOG Amazingly good painting! If you're using a digital camera, it might have different light settings for sunlight, cloudy, fluro etc. I find that using the right one really helps take better pics!
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD / (RE)PAINTING BLOG thanks, he was great fun to paint, not looking forward to the block of saurus i still have to repaint though.... thanks david! yeah, im probably one of the few who actually has a decent camera but takes awful photos.. never really photographed models before so im still learning, thanks for your advice
Re: CONVERTED OLDBLOOD / (RE)PAINTING BLOG i think white/yellow may work. with heavens being their lore, a celestial theme could work. might hard to work into the natural blues, greens, browns and other earth tones though. some white stripping
