Test model complete, added muzzle flair, fresh dirt to his boots and completed all the tentacles etc.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again... This is by far your best work so far.

Next up, Black Templars are under way, changed the heads and removed the chest detail to add the maltese cross, only the HQ will have chest icons and double shoulders the rest will be having transfers etc.

Fantastic! I have been looking forward to these. The Black Templars are my favorite chapter, I am excited to what you do with them considering your painting skills! :artist::snaphappy:

Black is hard to do well but I will try to match your excitement ;)

Now do I go clean and crisp or battle damaged like the Death guards?

Never understood how people give models that mixed colour effect.:( How did you make the red and yellows of the bassy's armour look more natural and blended rather than distinct borders between colours?

Also very impressed with the self-made hot air balloon

I did a write up of the Bassy here, Return of the Ancient Painter: Black Templars started

the trick is too use colours that are close in colour and gradually fade the colour, or if your using two total opposites use a glaze of an appropriate colour to soften the blend which you can see on the cloak of my Vampire lord.

Amazing painting of the place marine! Awesome stuff! The verdigris looks great as spot colour!
Are you now going to paint all the death guard or to start the black templars??

I'm going to do one Black Templar first then paint both armies at the same time, the Death guard will take ages compared to the Templars

Edge highlighting black is a dick. Are you using blues or greys? Might be worth trying a mixture to add some poppage...

I'm totally stealing the alternating yellow and black on the heavy bolter thinger.

Also have you considered tainting your whites with a touch of grey, they still look white to the eye - but it allows you to actually highlighting with pure white.

Yeah they do have a grey outline but you can't see it on the pics, this is the part I'm not happy with.

With the rest I'm going to airbrush the white and then do a recess wash for shade.

Go for it with the heavy bolter thingy ;)
