    Hello,

I've been traveling the Warhammer wilderness for a while and have recently returned to this hobby after an 11 year hiatus. I thought it would be cool to document my progress so here goes.

More details to follow but this is the first thing I've painted (beyond walls and door frames) in a long time. I've painted more LM since this little guy but he was important because he confirmed that I hadn't completely forgotten how to paint!! It would have been pretty devastating if I'd have had to learn again.

Looking good, especially for some one who forgot how to paint. ;)

Thanks n810 . The biggest things I've noticed is how slow I am but I'm already starting to limber up. He probably took north of 3 hours to paint which feels a little excessive. I've got a second batch of Skinks to paint this weekend and I'll see how much I've brought the time down. I'll upload a photo of his regimental buddies next week.

Good work. I always try to paint skinks using an almost assembly line method. I paint all of one feature first, then move on to the next one. The highest number of skinks painted within a month was about 76. I was tired of looking at skinks too.

Here are my first 5 Saurus. I reckon I need another 35 of these painted in the next few weeks. I should mention that I've got a 1500 point game with an old Warhammer buddy scheduled for New Year's day. I hope the years have dimmed his dice rolling ability (I've never seen anyone throw 24 dice and them all be 4+ before); i'm sure some people are born to dice rolling ;) .

Once I've got my core painted then points will probably add up pretty quickly with a few specialist units.

Unless I make significant Skink progress over the weekend this will probably be my last post for a few days. I wish your lizards every success over the coming days ... especially if you're playing Elves! :)

Saurus are looking good too, I like where there are a few random scales of the other color.

I don't have that kind of patience. I took 2 hours to paint 9 skinks, and I thought that took too long.

Great paint jobs though! Very clean looking models. Can't wait to see them all ranked up in big units.

    These look really, really cool.

I love the black line style you have, very different to the way most people paint models at the min.

Thanks for all the really great feedback. I'm thoroughly enjoying painting my army at the moment. I'd forgotten how calming sitting down with some models, my paints and the radio is.

This weekend was quite productive painting wise until I realised I left some key paints in Edinburgh (where I work). Either way i've got the best part of another 7 skinks painted and I've started work on my Salamders in a similar way to the awesome Icebloods army (also on the Painting and Converting board) using Dark Elf cold ones.

I'm planning on posting photos of my first Skink unit shortly. Then next weekend i'll aim to assemble the ... i'd say horde but at the moment it's probably small enough to be called a 'family of Lizardmen'.

    A few individual replies:

Ark: 76 Skinks in a month!! You must have been dreaming about the little fellas. I hope they've done you proud since.

n810 and Old Mossy: I've expanded the random colourations in my more recent models a bit further. I'm trying to get a uniform feel but with a bit of natural variation thrown in as well. It needn't add too much extra time either if you choose one or two extra colours per batch.

Qupakoco: I can't wait until I've got some bigger units as well!! By the end of next weekend I should have roughly 18 Skinks and 14 Saurus painted. Enough to start blocking them together even if at a minimal scale.

Lord Tsunami: Your wish is my command. Over the weekend I've started adding clumps of grass to my latest models and it's looking pretty good. I'm kind of going down a 'desserty' colour scheme but I don't think that necessarily excludes grass as long as it's a bit dry.

Thomas the Finch: Thanks Thomas. The black line style isn't something I've deliberately cultivated (it might be a style circa 2000!). I tend to use fairly stark highlight/lowlighting from black to almost white on a lot of my models. It probably came from not being bother to paint the cracks.

    Thanks again for the comments,

    DWS

Well I can't have you going and outdoing my own Salamanders now can I?! :rage:

I am very anxious to see what you come up with. I am considering making a Razordon to run around screening my Salamanders because he can have a stand and shoot reaction. Makes him a little scary.

Good luck, and your stuff looks great!!!

    @APhilmon

Lol. I think I'm busted! I'm loving the grey and white of your army and the 'Cold One' Salamanders are inspired. Mine ware different but i don't think they're quite as balanced as yours. That comment will make more sense when i post some images. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that :D

I'm looking forward to the Razordon already. I'm not planning on having any of them in my army for the medium term so you're probably safe with them :)

I'm looking forward to your next installment!

Well glad you like the colors. They are actually a gray-green color with an off-white as the final highlight, and everything else is in between.

I cannot wait to see your results for sallies! I am anxious to start on the razordon, but am waiting to finish all my shields in one go. I already have the base color of the scales (somber gray) and will be highlighting up soon. Then the ice details on the "metal" parts. Then finally gluing them on.

Again, great work so far!!! Keep em coming!

I'm having a bit of the problem with the lighting for my photos so it won't be until the weekend that I can provide some better quality photos. To keep you interested I thought I'd post this 'Skink Conga Line' photo - after all even the Old Ones liked to party!!! :D

Note: The bases still need to be completed

... and while i'm waiting for the others so I can leave the office, here's the Salamander inspired by Aphilmon's great effort:

    http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/icebloods-my-lizardmen-plog.9927/

This is my first attempt with green stuff and I can't help but think he looks a little like an overweight dancing dinosaur. I'm relatively happy with him as a first effort though (afterall i've got another 4 Cold Ones to practise with). I've trimmed the neck a little since I took this photo.

I rather like the neck frill... well from what I can see.

I think you might be better off sculpting the back sail around a sheet of cut plastic,
in order to get it thin enough....
