I could not find an equivalent thread, so I thought I would make one here.

As we all know, lizardmen got a bunch of new models fairly recently, even if some of them were less than spectacular (*cough* ripperdactyls), or accompanied by less than stellar rules. This is of course nice, as it looks like we won't be getting new figures for a looong time. However, many of the already outdated and ugly figures did not get new models, as they instead focused on adding new units. King here are the Salamanders, Cold ones, Kroxigors, Razordons, etc. Therefore, many of us have been creating conversions or simply using different models, but it is not always easy to find said other models, if one wants them to look good. Here is a list of possible models that could be used for conversions or replacement.

    - Cold ones
Cold One Knights(dark elves): These are the classic ones used for conversion, and are a beautiful model, but they are also quite pricey, and require quite a bit of work to fit the lizardmen asthetic.

Reptus Raptors(Warlord): Great, if slightly small, models that I think could make great Cold Ones. I am especially fond of them as they remind me of the really old Cold Ones, back when skinks were riding them.

Brood of Payanak(Warlord): An interesting choice for a Cold One rider. Already sold as cavalry, these are well made and pretty models, if perhaps a bit too "draconic" in style.

    - Salamanders
Flesh Hounds of Khorne(Chaos): May seem like a bit of a stretch, and it assuredly is, but there are not many models that would work well as a salamander, and with a bit of conversion work, the Flesh Hounds could make for a quite convincing replacement.
    http://www.games-workshop.com/en-EU/Flesh-Hounds-of-Khorne

Basilisk(Forgeworld): Another stretch, but with some rather heavy conversion work, at least some parts of the Basilisk could be used for a potential Salamander conversion, as they are in the right size range.
    http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-DK/Basilisk

Shade beast(Warlord): Yet another stretch(seeing a trend here?), but the body shape and size range are both right, and with a lot of greenstuff, it could serve as a good template.

    - Kroxigors
Fimir warriors(Forgeworld): Correct size range, similar body shape, just replace the head and do a few other changes, such as possibly adding scales with greenstuff, and these should make quite good Kroxigors.
    http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-DK/Fimir-Warriors

Reptus Skullbreakers(Warlord): Very similar to a kroxigor, and quite possibly based on them, I think these could make excellent ones with just a few tweaks.

Really like the idea of using those fimir warriors as krox. Like the lumbering heavy look, kinda like a croc or komodo dragon. might consider these as they're not too expensive from FW.

Are they proper scale though? They do look very big.

Do you guys think that GW's Kroxigor are so bad that they need a substitute? Personally I think GW's kroxigors are nicer than the model posted above. Of course aesthetics are a very subjective thing, so tastes will vary greatly.

I like the GW kroxigors but I think they seem a bit small, especially compared to other races equivalents.

Honestly, I don't think the kroxigors are that bad. The main problem is just the heads, which look really derpy. That could be fixed with greenstuff though.

    Now, new batch of models:

    Saurus:

Ridgeback Lizardman Lancer(Shadowsea): These seem like they would make great saurus warriors, not much else to say about them.
    http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin..../38012-1-show-ridgeback_lizardman_lancer.html

Ridgeback Lizardman Breaker(Shadowsea): This one would make for a great champion or hero, though some work may be needed to make the weapon and shield match the LM aesthetic.
    http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin....38013-1-show-ridgeback_lizardman_breaker.html

Coatlaxi(Shadowsea): Already meant to be a special character, this one has a particularly nice pose, and may be worth considering for that alone.
    http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin....show-coatlaxi_-_ridgeback_lizardman_lord.html

    Kroxigors:

Draconid Heavy Warrior(Shadowsea): Slightly odd head, but with some edits to the weapon, it could make a pretty good Kroxigor.

    http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin....info/38018-1-show-draconid_heavy_warrior.html

    Skinks:

Troglodyte warriors(Shadowsea): Certainly an unconventional choice, but some really nice models, which could make for a very unique part of an army.

    Salamanders:

Lava lizard(Shadowsea): Very different from the Salamanders we know, but with some greenstuff to prolong the tail, and perhaps add a few other features, it could make a pretty interesting Sally.

But fluff-wise they are meant to be a little derpy.

    Those models are pretty nice.

@Loxodon , I don't know the size of the Mierce's models... But the round bases are 60mm...
@NIGHTBRINGER I don't think that GW kroxigor are very bad. In my opinion the Stegadon model is very awesome, Gor Rok too, Carnosaur and others are awesome... I only don't really like too much Kroxigors, the new Salamanders and the new Cold One... But opinion are very different.;)
I really like to find new possibilities for my army... For example I like these Mierce models, and I really like the Kroxigors made from Woogity too...

Confirming that these are good alternatives for our Salamanders because I have a couple. They were not that expensive and better looking than the standard Salamanders. In my opinion there is no real need to lengthen the tail or anything. They are slightly bigger than our regular Salamanders. The rocky base it is standing on is a bit bigger than a standard 40x40 base.

If you guys want I can upload a pic with a Skink for a proper size comparison. Will have to wait till tomorrow though.

@Haemoglobin when you can post the photo of your Salamander, so we can see the real size of the model!

I have the Saurian Mauler (all those spikes make it literally painful to put together...) and while a stunning model that I very much love, I feel it would be too small to be a Kroxy. Mierce miniatures are fantastic, though pretty expensive even when comparing to GW. Still, those models would probably make a nice, hefty Kroxigors, especially if you like the crocodile motif.
