Looks amazing! I like the lava base, and the fiery red skin of the slann. Palanquin turned out incredibly.
The Slann looks really good. As I mentioned before, I really like the orange. The one thing I'd suggest is to throw a wash (a brown of some sort) over the gold sections to give them a little bit more depth. Great job! Make sure you add him to the Slann thread in the Itza Gallery of Fine Arts.
by the way guys, i know i have said this repeatedly, but i really started my blogs to get commentary and ideas from other gamers/hobbyists. anything is appreciated. TLDR: I like discussion and the sharing of ideas.
Ah, that we all do. I enjoy discussion myself, but there are always times when it does not flow. Personally, I find it best to start in a project and focus on my work. It gets my juices flowing. I'm actually thinking about painting tonight because I saw you said something. Hrm, I do like your color-scheme, it reminds me of a Tyranid Hive Fleet paint job I saw once before. It looks excellent. I cannot wait to see that Carno-painted up as the Rhinosaur creature.
I'll always give feedback! The Slaan - The model itself and the stone look cool, I would say the vines don't look great at the moment - have you considered adding a brown wash and then drybrushing/highlighting with the same colour and then a shade lighter on the utmost edges? I think that'd really add something to them and make them look less plastic/stuck on. I also think the bones could do with another layer on them - might be the lighting but they look a little patchy to me. Having said that I am a big fan of the model itself, you've done the colours on it well and I love the textured feel to it. Nice job. The gold on the throne also looks really good. Warriors - Back scales look fantastic, good job. Not the biggest fan of the green you've used, but can't fault the application. Recess shadows on the shield are also good. I think the gold could use with a wash/dry brush - straight on metallics look a bit harsh to me. Carno - Good work so far, looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
Ok here goes, First off what are you painting the models for, gaming? do you want to push on to the next level? They look good and I would say decent tabletop standard but you can do much more if that is the desired path. Let me know were your heading?
Ok here goes then, Slann At the moment he looks one dimensional, your shading looks ok but your highlighting can't be seen, try doing extreme highlights on the top of objects to catch the eye, the veins need shading and then a layer and highlight again take your time and look at each stage objectively. The Slann needs spot highlight to help bring out shaping, knuckles, knees, elbows etc again go extreme. Warriors The wash on the white is too dark creating a dirty look this may be intentional, the green looks flat and needs a shade and highlight, shield the shade is the wrong tone for the blue it's too strong atm, if you would have done a dark blue base then highlighted up to your current blue that would have been perfect, claws look too white again shade and highlight don't be scared to experiment. Carny Now your at an early stage here so hard to see where your going with it but the wash is too strong at the moment when your going over white you really should thin down your wash and apply thin coats to build up the colour. I've said this before but never be afraid to make mistakes and experiment that's how we all learn. Now I sound like an expert and banging on but I don't mean it like that and I'm far from an expert, I want you to get better and love helping so if you feel I'm coming across too strong I apologize. Let me know if you want to go through a step by step say on the green of your warriors.
I appreciate the rundown. The green is a basecoat of a Vallejo green then given a wash with GWs green wash.
