I'm looking for input on how I should prioritize purchasing models for a summoning army. Ideally, I'm working towards a 2K Dual Shadowstrike army, but I know our meta is summoning, so I want a well-rounded, utilitarian summoning pool from which to draw that can be versatile depending on the opponent and Battleplan.

    Currently, I have assembled:
    • 1x Slann Starmaster
    • 1x Astrolith Bearer (Proxy built from Start Collecting)
    • 2x Skink Starpriest
    • 1x Skink Priest (Proxy built from Start Collecting)
    • 1x Sunblood (Proxy built from Start Collecting)
    • 1x Scar-Vet on Cold One (Proxy built from Start Collecting)
    • 1x Carnosaur with interchangeable Scar-Vet or Oldblood
    • 1x Troglodon
    • 1x Bastildon with interchangeable Solar Engine or Ark of Sotek
    • 6x Ripperdactyls
    • 2x Razordons
    • 70x Skinks
    • 10x Warriors
    • 5x Knights
I think my priority should be to get a couple more Razordons and perhaps more Ripperdactyls? Here's my idea on priority of purchase and I welcome feedback:
    1. 2x Razordons
    2. 6x Ripperdactyls (for dual Shadowstrike)
    3. Engine of the Gods
    4. 1x, maybe 2x Bastilidon(s)
    5. ALL THE SKINKS
    6. ??
So, is my priority on par, or should I change it up or focus on other units entirely?

They way I use summoning is never to try and summon in something big as the longer you stash points the more likely you are to have your Slann killed.

I summon in relatively cheap units that way there is something coming onto the table nearly every turn, that really messes with your opponent, admittedly I only play against my son.

    So Skinks, Razordons, Rippers.

I would still buy a EotG and Basilidons but include them in your starting list.

It depends a lot on what exactly you're facing. If your opponent has loads of ranged firepower and your slann is constantly under threat then summoning whatever you can immeadiatly is pretty much the only way forward. If however you know your slann is going to survive regardless a big summon can be more than worth it.

Honestly, I have never had a Slann killed yet. Most of the events I attend have DoK, LoN, and Deepkin at the top tables. And none of those armies include strong shooting (deepkin are all Ells, Dok normally are just a massive amount of Witch Aevles with a blood cauldron). SCE Ballista are the only thing I ever have to worry about, and with the neg 2 (artifact plus LoS) to hit and only one shot at 30 inches I rarely suffer more than 3 wounds.

Your priority for building your sideboard looks good. Maybe addition Skinks should be right after EotG. I would only pick up one additional basty. This will let you build Thunderquake later on after you get board of Shadowstrike.

    I appreciate the feedback.

Just curious, how many Skinks do folks here have? Seems like 100 is a rough number for a decent board and sideboard.

120 is how many I own. I only regret it when I think about painting 80 more of them.

100ish is solid. Painting 40 of them from undercoat to basing takes me about a week (without assembling and priming)

    Don't.

The idea may sound fun, but a single starhost is more than enough.
the battalion isn't cheap and with those 180 points, plus the 80 pts for the 2nd priest you can pick an EotG... and even save points!
You still would have 2 units of 6 rippers (and 2 toads is still good for battlefield control).
Then with the cogs you can teleport the 2nd unit of 6 rippers wherever you want and have them charge at 6".

2 additional razordons is a good idea. a unit of 4 is great to play with LoSaT.

    EotG is a must have.
