Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Hooray! Finished! (except for maybe 10 minutes' work with some static grass and the gem on the shield) Please excuse the morning light as it doesn't shine over the whole model properly, I'll do one last pic later when he's 100% finished. Took a while to get the worn look on the trophy horns, but i'm happy with the outcome I may do a few more touch-ups on the loincloth, necklace and inside of the shield. Minor details The foundation of the piranha blade is supposed to look old and well-used. I hope that it has turned out that way! ------ Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions or questions are most welcome!
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Looking pretty good man. Suggestions... perhaps another thinned wash over the gold bits, to shade the engraving?
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] I will endeavour to get it more outstandingy.... but those crevaces are very shallow and more difficult to obtain :/ I will endeavour. thanks n8
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Thanks mate! I'll get one last pic up when it's finished properly.
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Very nice looking Oldblood! I have always liked the model that comes with the Carnosaur kit (especially the grin ) and your paint job fits him nicely. The trophy horns and other bone parts look really good and the blues have nice subtle hues in it. And the weapon looks awesome! Can you also include a better picture of the base?
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Thanks for your message! The carnosaur kit head, sword and shield were the only parts of him used in this, the rest was chakax (which i need to get another one, because even though he's ridiculously overpriced, he still holds a special place in my heart lol). The piranha blade was fiddly, but fun. Probably the most fun converting a weapon i've had. I did a bit of google-ing to see what other people had done for creating a piranha blade and nothing really stood out to me and fit in with the fluff written for it. So I took two saurus warrior swords, cut them up and put them on a shaved down carnosaur sword with one saurus sword piece upside down. And seeing it now, I'm glad I spent the extra time on it! Once i've done the last bits and pieces, i'll take a few more pics and make sure I get some of the base!
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Great looking Old Blood. He looks ready to kick some Chaos warriors back to the void!
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Here's the final pictures. Unfortunately, I forgot to get a good picture of the shield, but I was having all sorts of trouble with lighting. so here 'tis. Added teeth to the necklace shield side rear with good shot of piranha blade Bases for Capra
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] cheers mate! hopefully he shows me some love in the upcoming tourneys!
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] I have never seen the Carnosaur kit's Oldblood model in real life, but as I recognized the head and the shield I assumed the whole model was original. Sorry about that. In the same vein I thought the weapon to be part of the kit, it just looked so fitting and I couldn't see any indications of modifications. But to have actually shaved off the extra plastic to join two normal swords together? That totally blew me away, especially with almost no telling signs that such a feat has been done... Wow. Kudos to you, sir! And the base looks fantastic, did you make the stone yourself as well?
Re: The Nexs-Files - [(mostly)Completed Oldblood] Thank you so much for the comments! This picture indicates what I'd done with greenstuff on the sword.. For the base, I cut squares/oblongs/shapes from my brick of extruded foam and PVA'd them to a bunch of bases for my temple guard models (when i've finished that unit, I'll be posting it here too), so I used one of them. Basically, i painted the foam entirely black (really watered down because foam soaks it up really well, and if you don't then you get bits of foam colour jumping out through the paint), then drybrushed over the top in varying degrees of coverage grey, then a browny colour (in small areas), bone, then finally white. The green flock was done in patches and i used it to make uneven ground (as it clumps in PVA really well), then tufts of static grass - twice, so that it gets raised a bit. The sprouted grass tuft was fun - I got some green fibre grass (called "field grass" by woodland scenics ===>LINK.) I cut it into small groups and stick it in clumps of the PVA-type water effects ===> LINK
Re: The Nexs-Files - [HOLY CRAP I finally finished the TG] Oooh! I like the temple steps in the back ranks! Very nice indeed Brad!
Re: The Nexs-Files - [HOLY CRAP I finally finished the TG] Really epic looking unit! As I already said, I really like the stone blocks, and seeing the Temple Guard on them gives a really bad ass vibe. And the glow-effect on Slann's and the standards eyes is really cool. I have tried to do it couple times but have never been successful. Would you mind sharing your secret of the glow?
Re: The Nexs-Files - [HOLY CRAP I finally finished the TG] Thanks guys, there's been alot of time invested in these bad boys! Thanks Capra. The glowing effect was an interesting learning curve. The slann's eyes had alot more time spent on them. The trick to it is figuring out the light source and how the light would fall on the surfaces. With the slann's eyes, I went for a blue glow with a very bright source. Best way to do it is backward - outside surfaces into the light source. The other important thing is using a 1:2 or 3 drop ratio of paint:water. If you'd like, once i've finished my painting for the upcoming tournament, I can put together a small tutorial? Otherwise there are a few good tutorials out there already
Re: The Nexs-Files - [HOLY CRAP I finally finished the TG] I would love to read your tutorial! But of course, only when you have time. Good luck with the tournie!
Re: The Nexs-Files - [HOLY CRAP I finally finished the TG] Great looking Temple Guard. the TG on the temple ruins really makes the unit come alive!
