Anyone know if the warhammer fantasy roleplay is any good and how fit it is for beginners? I saw they're releasing a new beginners set or some such in the weekly mail, so I'm curious.
I’ve seen this too, although I’ve never played the original so I can’t comment. I haven’t even had the chance to play D&D even though I’ve got the starter set - I must have a look into purchasing a set of those tiles to make structuring the adventures easier...
RPG in general, yes. However I have not played "Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay", I used 5th Edition DnD for my RPG games with Warhammer minis. The only Warhammer RPG I have played thus far is Wrath and Glory which is 40k RPG. I find that system very complex compared to regular DnD which is far more streamlined and easy to use. At the end of the day, its roleplay, find a system that's easy and fun to use then you can use whatever setting you like to be fair.
Fair enough. To be honest, I have my hands full already being a hero to so many. I'm sure you will find another suitable candidate.
True, I just want to know if the WHF is complex or easy for beginners, a group of friends are thinking of trying rpg's, but are put off by the potential complexity. So I'm trying to find one that's simple enough that I can learn the rules by head quickly and guide em through it, but I'd like to avoid having to try (and thus learn) 10 different games before we find the right one.
Are you looking ant the recent 4th edition? the one published by Cubicle 7? I've heard it's pretty (dark) fun
I think so, GW links you to the site of cubicle 7 at least when you click on the link on their site. Any idea if it's easy for beginners to pick up? The description on the site claims it's supposed to be a decent starting point, but it's so spares in details that I can't exactly tell if it would be or not. Does it have the same approach as AoS where all the basic rules can be basicly summerized on 2 pages?
All I know is that it works on d100 (not a great fan of these but hey), however it should include a Starter Set, which AFAIK is designed to be an introductive adventure to help you learn how to play the system.
I had this saved in my DnD folder, someone who made up some Warhammer Fantasy / AOS units into DnD encounters: Legions of Nagash Flesh-Eater Courts Beastclaw Raiders Tomb Kings Nighthaunt
mm, I gues Il have a look at the starter set then, its only 20 or 30,- anyways that should be doable.
If I had a little more time, I'd give you my impressions. I bought a digital copy a couple weeks back, but haven't had time to read it. I have never played, but done quite a bit of reading in the 2nd edition, however. I'm not sure I can recommend the game for anyone of this generation who is not already familiar with RPGs. WFRP tends to be a bit complex and more fiddly than other more modern systems. If I was going to introduce new players to roleplaying, I'd probably start them on something like Savage Worlds instead. Actually, that is what I plan on doing when I start a game with my nieces and nephews over the winter break. I'm going to run a Star Wars game using the Savage Worlds system. The test drive rules are free and a fairly easy read if you are interested. If you want more, a digital copy of the main rulebook is $10 at drivethruRPG, although I'd wait a couple weeks until the Adventure Edition gets released to buy it. https://www.peginc.com/freebies/SWcore/TD06.pdf
