As requested this thread is dedicated to discussions about tips, tactics & strategies of the game Warhammer total war 2. Of course, it's not limited to Lizardmen.

    Enjoy.

Let me start with professional campaign cheese build of the day:

Unfortunately this doesn't work in MP, due to some... hmmm... restrictions to the amount of dinosaurs you can field, but if you like 0 losses during your campaigns against whoever this is the composition for you!

Lizardman economy is relatively easy to snowball.

Alternatively, you can cheat by using the following command in the console command screen as many times as you need: add_money [insert amount here]

Admittedly, it's been years and many Total War titles since I last used the console for anything, so I may be wrong on that last account.

I don't think the cheats have worked since medieval two or something.

Meh, the economy in warhammer TW is weird, for pretty much all factions. There's two major issues.

    1) The limited building slots & the way you gain acces to units means you basicly need 2-3 provinces before you really get anywhere.
    and
    2) TW has been moving away from "passive" income from an actual economy, and more towards an "active" income from raiding and looting. As well as from quest rewards. Which means that the easiest way to make money tends to be to just fight battles (and not lose any units). At this point it's become quite bad with post-battle loot easily worth a couple of thousands.

combined it's made the economy very weird and overall kind of a pain to manage. So yeah, I can imagine you're struggling :p

This is one of my cheapest armies :p
Just conquer enough lands, especially those juicy Elven colonies that give 5k gold a turn and you are the Rank 1 Strength all day all night.
Still not enough? Go raid Lothern as TikTak or KroqGar or Naggarond as Mazda. They should have nice T5 settlements that will give you a nice one time cash influx.
Still not enough? Tomb Kings are wonderful trading partners and allies! Nothing better than raiding Lothern with KroqGar with buddy Settra on your side. Even the grumpy Arkhan will give you a trading agreement right of the bat.
Need even more? After Vampire Coast update there is literally so much gold in the seas that you can build T5 settlements doing just treasure hunting.
Need slightly more? I heard rebellions are nice source of money... and XP! A well planned collection of rebellions can be a beneficial both for training your soldiers and earning some gold.
And last, but not least, there is an upgrade giving lizards 200% income from gold mines and quarries. This upgrade usually allows to squeeze 1 more lord.

Why do you need to cheat in a game that gives you overbuffed units and AI running away from a... terradon? :D I play Legendary and Very Hard exclusively and I feel this game is far too easy for me.

    ---

Do we want to be this thread to be more campaign tips oriented or multiplayer oriented? The builds and strategies in MP are vastly different and honestly it would be nice to have a "Build of the Week" section ;)

A lot of those are essentially little more than gaming the system. You're not supposed to have to make a beeline for whatever elven colony is nearby just to get a functional economy. Treasure hunting should be a minigame, not a main economic powersource. And raiding your own lands to create rebellions is all sorts of silly. And diplomacy is nigh impossible unless you game the system with gifts and whatnot (even if the AI would benefit from it significantly..). It's all within the rules I guess, but it isn't necesarly fun. I wish they made the cities & the economy work like in Rome I again. Where everything could be build in one city, but time was a much more important factor.

Meh, the difficulty of the game is weird. On the one hand you can easily abuse certain mechanics making the game far easier than it should. On the other hand if you play "fair" certain things can become ridiculously difficult because you end up accidently handicapping yourself because CA assumes you go and abuse (some of) those mechanics.

I didn't mean that. Aside Lizardmen not having an option to raid, on Legendary, the public order penalty is so large the rebellions tend to pop up quite frequently.

Diplomacy is a bit weird in this game. I like the one from 3 Kingdoms much more. Almost everyone will start to hate you more the more settlements you have and the trading agreements dissolve over time. Excluding Tomb Kings, which actually like you more the more you have :), hence their trading agreements tend to last forever.

Ah, the variant I knew was literally just to raid your lands to speed it up. But I guess on legendary that's not even needed.

I've had literally 1 succesful run with dimplomacy. Archeon showed up, all the good races where willing to ally & by the end my alliance was so big and powerfull it covered about 80% of the world and everyone wanted to join out of self preservation. It was the one occasion where it actually worked.

Economies are pretty easy for me to manage. Some races' economies are better than others. There's also certain settlements/capitals that provide income bonuses on top of the amount of large amounts of money they generate.

Yeah, you need pact as soon as possible as in the late game it becomes harder and harder. Especially on vortex campaign, so no High Elf buddies :(

On the side note I must say that bringing 5 Skink Priests on Engines of the Gods and Lord Kroak to the final battle make absolutely best fireworks in the game ;)

    Dread saurian!!

I think the best way to use the dread saurian is to hide it in the forest until the enemy archers are killed.

I use Rippers to make archers distracted, then EoTG splash damage happens.

I wonder if Dreads should be paired with Skinks of Heavens or/and Beasts to buff them with Harmonic Convergence (buffs MD and Armor on overcast) and with Pann's Inpenetrable Pelt (buffs speed and ward save) to give them them enough time to reach enemy infantry. If you happen to field Slann with Lore of Life this gives you ability to heal the beast and place other buffs. The problem is you literally spend babysitting one unit while your opponent can simply buff regular troops or dump AoE and remove your infantry while you are not looking :p

Dread Saurians are rather massive, so pretty much all ranged attacks will hit it, also the ai seems to always go after them first regardless if there are other enemies closer. You want to engage them after the frontlines have clashed, preferably with the backline a little compromised, then they will rip and tear most things. Also they absolutely shread cavalry, even demigryphts have a hard time against them.
Harmonic works quite well, makes then good in 1v1 fights and vs large targets but other than that it won't do much. Pann's is okay if used on multiple units and the saurian, but you mainly shouldn't use it to counter ranged shooting, since manticore summons do that much better.

I was really excited when they announced the dread saurian. I knew that it couldn't be too overpowered, but I didn't expect it to be able to be completely melted by any ranged fire at all. I mean, the thing should at least have some missile resistance for being a giant monster with a supposedly tough hide, right? Also, they need to improve it's pathing a lot. It gets stuck on everything. I recently did a siege where I had my agent damage the walls beforehand. The Shredder of Lustria just stood there unable to figure out how to go through the gap in the wall, and I had to send it over to attack the gate while the rest of my army poured in through seven pre-made holes in the enemy walls, lol!
