There are two that are common and very good. One has the blade of realities, really good for munching characters. The other has scimitar of sun and maiming shield for an impressive 8 s5 attacks, 9 after the carno gets frenzy (it transfers to the rider) so he is a real unit eater. Depends on what you want the guy to do.

use skink screens. Unit of 10 skinks is only 50 points and move 15cm

Screens often won't protect against cannons though since they can guess any range.. The best way to protect against cannons is to attack them straight away with terradons or charmeleon skinks, get them out of the way and they can't shoot.

Against most artillery and magic, remember that the carnosaur is not a large target anymore so Aiker is right that skinks will screen it.

Thing is, he can target the skinks in front and purposefully guess the range that would take him straight into the carny, there's nothing in the BRB that disallows 'accidental' guessing into a unit they can't see.

I hate when they do that. I've played people that even say out right they are guessing for the unit behind the screen and it really annoys me. There should be a rule about it in certain instances like say if your opponent says "I'm aiming 6 inches past your skinks and your character happens to be right there or if they guess one turn and then guess the same or similar when your character happens to be in the spot he hit last time. There should be a rule about purposfully over guessing or grossly over guessing. I think that if the declared target is over shot by a certain distance the shot should fail all together. This would do two really cool things 1) force cannon/handgun noobs to actually get good at guessing 2) not let their 100 point noob machines kill of 500ish point heros they can't even see. Of they should make a rule for characters to be able to dodge or other wise avoid shots from a certain distance. I think if you see a cannon ball flying at you from say 24 inches away you'd have time to step out of the way. Like a look out sir without needing to be in a unit.

thereal, I really like your idea- but me I like any idea that forces a return of tactical thinking, manuvering, and strategy. I hate herohammer- if I wanted to play that I would just play 40k ;)

I think, not 100% sure, but I think that purposely overguessing is mentioned in the FAQ. IIRC they say something like "Ofcourse it's not allowed, but we're all gentlemens and you're suposed to handle the situation". Well....I am, ofcourse, a gentlemen....But when I argued to my friend that he could only see my screen, which was about 10-12" ahead...he just said: "hm, k....let's make it X-4" then...."
GAAAH!!!

So, yes. Terradons and chameleons are my solution nowadays.
It's not allowed, but since it's hard to prove/get rid of...it's still a problem..
