I hate when they do that. I've played people that even say out right they are guessing for the unit behind the screen and it really annoys me. There should be a rule about it in certain instances like say if your opponent says "I'm aiming 6 inches past your skinks and your character happens to be right there or if they guess one turn and then guess the same or similar when your character happens to be in the spot he hit last time. There should be a rule about purposfully over guessing or grossly over guessing. I think that if the declared target is over shot by a certain distance the shot should fail all together. This would do two really cool things 1) force cannon/handgun noobs to actually get good at guessing 2) not let their 100 point noob machines kill of 500ish point heros they can't even see. Of they should make a rule for characters to be able to dodge or other wise avoid shots from a certain distance. I think if you see a cannon ball flying at you from say 24 inches away you'd have time to step out of the way. Like a look out sir without needing to be in a unit.
I think, not 100% sure, but I think that purposely overguessing is mentioned in the FAQ. IIRC they say something like "Ofcourse it's not allowed, but we're all gentlemens and you're suposed to handle the situation". Well....I am, ofcourse, a gentlemen....But when I argued to my friend that he could only see my screen, which was about 10-12" ahead...he just said: "hm, k....let's make it X-4" then...."
GAAAH!!!
So, yes. Terradons and chameleons are my solution nowadays.
It's not allowed, but since it's hard to prove/get rid of...it's still a problem..
