Hey all, I thought I'd add my blog to the pile and share my progress and I start re-collecting my Seraphon.

About 20 years ago with the 5ed box set I started my first Lizardmen army and now I am going to start again with my favourite army. I'm a massive fan of skinks & monsters so I'm hoping to put together loads of options for crazy lists for narrative games along with some "proper" lists to help my mates when they are tournament practising.

    Any how....pictures.

So this guy is the first tester for the army:

I was quite happy so I painted up the first few guys in the unit:

I've also gone with a slightly different basing scheme to my normal type, using cork to give it some colour and texture:

And here they are with a priest & rescued Skink chieften ready for a game:

I've just had a mass assemble session so hopefully I'll be updating soon with some more actually painted pictures.

Thanks for reading guys, hope you enjoyed!

    Currently Painted:
    Saurus Oldblood
    Skink Chief
    Skink Priest with priestly trappings
Skink Priest with Cloak of Feathers
    5 Skinks

    On the Painting table:
5 Skinks (to get one unit finished)

Those are some beautifully painted skinks, especially that first one.

Also your ruined building looks fantastic! :wideyed: Do you have more terrain?

    Thanks guys!

@Warden That terrain is actually cheekily borrowed from a friend as mine needs assembling and painting. Here it is on my RoB board though setup for a game (the random mat underneath is my 6p X-Wing mat with a hubble picture on it  ):

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I've finished the Oldblood for Silver Tower and tried something a bit different on the base. I've used Vallejo water texture to add a stream/swamp to the base

    Hope you like it :)

Awesome base! The only thing I´d suggest is adding a bit of white to represent foam. And also that face looks excellent!!

That water texture came out awesome! The base looks fantastic. The Oldblood is incredible. The blues mix and blend so well and there's a lot of great detail here.

The oldblood saurus looks fantastic, and his base is beautifully done. Thanks for the inspiration!

Very nice start to your army, I love the terrain and the board as well.

On your Old blood you have not painted the claws? he looks great and I think the water base is a very nice touch.

    Thanks everyone :)

Hopefully I'll get some more done over the next week or so - 10 more skinks are nearly finished so I'll have a technically "Matched Play Legal" list.

I have but they are the same colour as the scales and I'm not sure I like it (it's better IRL than in photos but still not great), I might darken it down a notch or two though.

So I started a new job just as I was getting into this and as such the last 12 months have been mental and I have made ZERO progress.

With AoS skirmish now being a thing that's what I am going to be aiming for. I've got 2 separate campaigns that I'll be playing with some mates and I need a 25pt and a 35pt starting list, I think I'm going to go with the following:

    List A - 25pts
    Skink Starpriest (16)
    2x Saurus Guard (4)
    5x Skinks (5)

    List B - 35pts
    Saurus Oldblood (24)
    1x Saurus Guard (2)
    2x Saurus Knights (8)
    1x Skink (1)

To get both lists painted up is only 4 models (2 guard and 2 knights) so I'm hoping to get that done over the next week or so if I get the time, I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

I'm also picking up some foam on Friday too so I can start building the first big monster base, deciding between a Stegadon or Bastiladon as the first monster. The Basti would be the smart money as they are just crazy good and badass models but part of me just loves the Stegadon as I can remember being 13yrs old and really wanting one but never being able to afford it.

After the skirmish bits and pieces I'll be working my way towards my first 2,000pt "Tourney Standard" list so I can play against my mates. I'm going for mixed arms and reasonably generic so that I can add to it in different ways. I think the list I am aiming for is ( (P) = Painted):

    Slann Starmaster

    Saurus Sunblood (P)
    Skink Starpriest (P)
    Skink Priest (P)

    10x Skinks (P)
    10x Skinks (P)
    20x Saurus Warriors

    6x Ripperdactyl Riders
    5x Chameleon Skinks

    1x Bastiladon
    3x Salamanders
    3x Skink Handlers

    Shadowstrike Starhost
I like the list as it has some of my favourite units (Slann, ripper, cham skinks and sallies) and I enjoy the idea of the Shadowstrike Starhost. I'm not sure if 6 Rippers are the right choice or if 3 are better. The options are:
    1. 6 Ripperdactyls
    2. 2x 3 Ripperdactyls
    3. 3 Ripperdactyls & 3 Kroxigor
    4. 3 Ripperdactyls & 3 Terradons

Anyway I will leave the boring "no painting" update there for now and try and put a post up in the next few days of where I am.

    Thanks for reading!

Well, I hate to break it to you but IMO your Skirmish lists are..... well.... let's say they will very likely die faster than you can say "screw you GW".
The Oldblood is OK, but Skinks do no damage at all, and warriors and guards also have just one wound so they die quickly. Guards may last a bit longer than Warriors.
Knights, Rippers, and Terradons are fairly good in Skirmish though, and so is the Skink Starpriest. For 25 I'd probably start with a Starpriest and two Knights, and either keep one point or put it on a Skink to claim unclaimed objectives.
    For 35 I'd either do
    - Starpriest, four Knights, three points to spare for Skinks or something, or just keep them
    or
    - Oldblood, two Knights, three points to spare for Skinks or something, or just keep them

As for the rest: Decent lists I think.
Build what you like, so if you have fond memories for the Stegadon: Go for it! Don't expect the killer competitive army, but if your friends are not too competitive either there will be quite some lists you can play. Cool thing about Seraphon is the versatility. :)

Well that sounds ominous! I see your points though.

Knowing the guys I am playing, the 35pt list I could take the worst units available and just have fun. But for the second I may well follow your advise!

Yeah I'm not after super competitive, just a solid base with a mix of units. I'm not a player who plays the same list more than once so this is just the first one to build towards. My other armies are Skaven (about 7k) and Ogres (about 8k) and I've literally never used the same army list more than twice with either army! The key is just getting that first 2k painted then adding units to it, I went a bit crazy last year and bought just shy of 10,000pts of Seraphon so I can really mix all the units up and try everything out.....painting just takes so long!

you can always play with just built models, if you don´t mind. but the thing is that then you´ll end up with a mass of grey to paint, and if you like building more than painting, and use the assembling process as a rest from painting, then this is not such a good idea :D

Playing with painted models is much more immersive though. Also everyone knows: Painted models fight better. :)
