    Hi!

I started to paint my old miniatures and i struggle to find a fitting color scheme for my skinks. I have made a few ones but something allways feels odd.

I am thinking of a fang of Sotek scheme for my saurus (light/dark blue with a red stripe).
I want my skinks to be more greenish but to keep consistancy I wanted to keep the red stripe. I do not really know how to paint the scales... I came up whith these 3 ones.

    1. The darker green one, my first try. And also my first try with contrast paint. This one feels a bit too monochromatic.

    2. The red scaled one. Not my favorite but I needed to try that one.

    3. The blue scaled one. My favorite one but there is something I don't like but I can't figure out what. Perhaps the crest on his head ?(not sure about the name of this)

So which one do you like the most and how to improve it colorwise?

    Thanks alot!

I like the 3rd one, I think it’s the crest that’s off perhaps try with the top greenish and the inside red ?!

    Cheers
    Nice handlers

Yeah I didn't try really hard to highlight, I was just trying to lay most of the color to see what it would look like. I will highlight more on the finished products. I'll keep it simple tho since there is a huge lot of them to paint.

Actually it isn't finecast it is some old metal handlers I bought a while ago.

    I'll sure try that out!

    Thanks for your replies!

    Hi!

A little update on my skinks. So I tried 2 different options one with a red crest and a red membrane, and one with a green crest and a red membrane as @Egres advised. I will keep that last one as my color scheme for my skinks, I really like his look.
I also fooled around a little with the bases, turned out to be ok I guess. Perhaps I'll mix more brown paint in the mud.

I still struggle with the terradon turquoise contrast paint as it seems to pool on some unwanted places and tint the miniature very fast. How do you avoid that?
What color do you use to highlight it? All I have is either too blue or too green...

    Thanks again for your answers!

Glad you like the new colour scheme as for the issue with the paint couldn’t really help you much haven’t play with contrast paint yet, for the colour you can always try mixing the 2 colour together on a pallet and see if you like the look ?!? Try a couple different way until you like it ?

I think the new schemes look pretty good. Personally, I like the turquoise crest with red membrane as well.

Yes, the Contrast paints do tint a miniature rather quickly. Still, after you paint a section with it, or event the whole mini, you should have time to go back with a clean brush and soak up some of the areas that you feel pooled too much. Alternatively, if you have Contrast Medium, you could try to thin down the Terradon Turquoise. But, it would probably take a considerable amount of medium to thin an intense color.

As for what you could use to highlight Terradon Turquoise, you could try a couple of thin layers (or dry brush) of Sotek Green and then Temple Guard Blue, if you have those colors. It will push the highlights to a bluish color, but it should keep the deep turquoise shadows.

I like them both, maybe you could use the turquoise crest for the Basic skinks and the Red one for the Skink Alpha?
