I'm looking to make a list that can do well against Dark elves and Ogres. I used to make 1 list to for each, but I would like to try just 1 list for both very different armies.

This is what I remember them bringing, I'm sure I will forget a few units here and there.

Dark Elves: 30 executioners with razor banner, a ton of witch elves with cauldron, 1 hydra, repeater crossbowmen, 2 repeater bolt throwers, lvl4 dark magic wizard, dreadlord, and some smaller units I think shades and maybe fast can.

Ogre kingdom: lvl4 maw wizard, tyrant, 12 bulls, 8 or 12 iron guts GW, 3 mourn fangs, leadbelchers, 1 or 2 iron blasters, stone horn, maybe 1 or 2 units if gnoblars

    My list I'm thinking of

    Slann
HC, FoM, Soul of Stone, BSB, Skavenpelt banner, channeling staff

    Skink Priest
    Lvl1, dispel scroll

    Scar vet
Cold one, GW, shield, armour of destiny

    30x Saurus
Champion, standard bearer, hand weapon, shield

3 units of 10x skink skirmishes
    Javelins and shields

    11x skink skirmishes
    Blowpipes

    28x temple guard
    Champion, standard bearer

    5x chameleon skink

    2x Ancient Stegadons
    Unstoppable stampede

    1x salamander snack

    Aagh....

The problem is that these two armies have two very different play styles. Ogres are going to rush into combat as fast as they can while getting their missile troops close enough to do something. Dark Elves will be perfectly happy to stay back and shred your units with bowfire and repeater bolt throwers, then decimate the remainder with their elite troops.

Are you doing a competition? Or just a competition between friends?

Either way, my list for both these armies would be very different:

DARK ELVES: I'm going to need something to disrupt the missile fire while I get the Saurus close enough. Maybe Tik'taq'to with a bunch of Terradons to do Ambushing... Or more Chamo Skinks for both the crossbowmen and the Repeater Bolt Throwers. I'm going to want high armour save troops as the Elves have crappy strength generally. I'd probably run with Kroak since his S4 repeating spell is perfect for Elves who have a crappy Toughness. Plus it makes my TG into a pretty fearsome unit (-1 to hit is nothing to be sniffed at). Definitely want Saurus with Hand Weapon and Shield to give them as much protection as possible. I'd definitely take more Skink Skirmishers to rush at and attack any Witch Elves to hand and/or the crossbowmen and distract from the Saurus.

I'd probably write more, but it really depends what you're doing.

OGRES: Lots of Skirmishers, the poison works very well on the lightly armoured Ogres. Stegs with blowpipes are good. Solid Saurus blocks with spears so you get maximum attacks (Ogres are generally T4 so your Saurus will do fairly well). Lots of Fear and Terror causing creatures as the Ogre leadership is pants.

Blah, blah, blah. If you're doing an all-comers list then you just want to make sure as many bases as possible are covered.

Let me know what you think.

Some great comments already but I like your list overall.

If you’re intent on double stegs, give them both sharpened horns and drop the stampede. Against ogres multiple wound impact hits are game changing!

personally I’d drop one and go big on salamanders as both armies will suffer from template flaming, nullifies regeneration for the ogres and both witch elves and executioners will only gain a 5 or 6 up save aka they’ll die in droves!

If points legal I’d also suggest upping the camo skinks if you can find the points, they’ll quickly take out the dark elf bolt throwers with good placement and the cowboy to support.

Whatever you decide good luck and let us know how you fair

    +1 on multiple wounds items.

Also, Ogres is one of the few armies where I'd say a Carnosaur can be viably fielded (i.e. low WS generally for the troops and EVERYONE has several wounds, meaning the Carnosaurs S7 D3 wounds attack becomes very useful).

Those are some great tips, thanks!

It's non competitive just between my self and 2 friends (with 2 very different armies lol)

I think you might be onto something with special characters. I haven't really used them in the past but I'm open to trying them out.

Thanks! I'm not really committed to anything on the list so dropping a stegadon is no problem. I'll maybe drop a stegadon and get more salamanders and more chameleon skinks.

My original plan was to run the 2 stegadons together on the flank. I think sharpened horns is a great idea

So most of the special characters are NOT worth it.

Kroak is and so is Tetto'eko.

I think Tiq'taq'to is depending on circumstance. In the Dark Elf game, having the ambushers I think would make a bid difference. Especially if it's a big unit so it can take some hits and still be effective.

Sharpened horns is another upgrade which is great against a multi-wound army. Not worth it's points in other circumstances.

Just make sure you get that charge! Use a block of Saurus to lure them in and then flank charge with the Steg. Or lure them in with a Skink Skirmisher unit, tactically flee and then counter charge with a Steg. Just don't leave it unsupported as it will be ineffective after the charge turn (no thunderstomp as they are all Monstrous Infantry).
