Winter 2021/2022 Poetry Contest has begun. We only have five poems and you only get one vote, so read these carefully before voting. There short so I recommend multiple readings. For me personally, I think it helps to read them quietly to yourself and then read them out loud. Spoiler: Poem 1: Eternity Warden Eternity Warden Battered, bloodied, charged by horses Vilest magic from evil hands Overwhelming enemy forces Yet the Warden stands. Broken tooth and broken scale Weapon shattered in his hands He fights with claw, he fights with tail Still the Warden stands. The highest praise, oh he deserves it Eternal duty, day and night All his sacrifice is worth it The Warden fights the Master's fight. Spoiler: Poem 2: "Seeker of Riches" Unknown seeker of riches Leeches! Mosquitos! Poisonous Spiders! Blinding clouds of Gnats! Snakes! The loathsome things are everywhere, watching us with their unblinking eyes, sniffing at us with their forked tongues. We lost count of all the hideous snakes we’ve seen! Spoiler: Poem 3: "I am Lizard Born of Starlight" I am Lizard, born from Starlight A warning gave us notice There came orders down the line We have never known surrender That’s just not for our kind Enemies will get nervous Like they never have before Close my eyes, clear my heart Arrows, swords and spears can’t hurt you Send me out there to fight for good Give me the agility to dance through battle, uninjured if could All I am is devotion You taught me everything I know Wave goodbye, wish me well Now I’ve got to go I am Lizard, born from starlight I do not know warmth, my blood is cold An I’m on my knees praising the Old Ones I am Lizard, born from Starlight. And I’m on my knees praising the Old Ones I am Lizard, born from Starlight. Will the stars align alright? Is there still a home tonight? There is no damage I’m receiving We are giving them a beating. I am Lizard, born from Starlight. Spoiler: Poem 4: "Worth" Worth The spears pierce The claws rip The jaws crush - a worthy life. Spoiler: Poem 5: Leviathan Leviathan down in the depths, I am. the dream creeps into slumber the toad's gaze that burns into me the call i follow, and I go. from the depths, I rise. the kraken knows me and flees but there's no time to chase the food the call I follow, up I go. out of the depths, I sense the light the light that feeds the life the life that dares to sail the sea. the call I follow, up I strike. the call has gone, and so the ship the waves carry to the land debris they don't want anymore. down to the depths, I go home.

If I had two votes, I would have given my second one to Leviathan, I enjoyed the rhythm and form of your poem, but I couldn't not vote for Eternity Warden.
