In your opinion and/or experience, is it worth to take a battle regiment to lower your drop count to something like 4, 5 or 6 (you already have a command entourage or warlord battalion typically) ? Or is it just better to keep adding battalions that provides bonuses to your army (another command entourage, the hunters of Ghur etc.) ?
thats a interesting question but im afraid it doesn't have an easy answer. long story short, it depends. long story long there are different benefits to both. on the one hand having a low drop army is incredibly helpful for turn order, being able to chose who goes first is some players basis for their game plan and some armies even depend on it. it also playes into the OB point that gets removed turn 3. on the other hand players like me like to go WAY up in drops i rarely have less then 9. this allows me to drop my army where it is most needed to respond to where the enemy as put their stuff, if i see they have made a major commitment to one side of the map i can either respond in kind if i think i can beat them there or i can mirror them over commiting to the other side and then holding the line. i can also put my counter units closer to where they would do the most good and can hide my hand until after it's to late to counter it (im a tad bit biased) so overall it depends on what you think is most important and how well you adapt to the game.
It depends what your list is. Generally, coalesced lists (at least ones that aren't all stegs) have the flexibility in their threat ranges and quantity of screens to be a high drop army. I tend to think if you can't get below 4 you shouldn't bother. My LVO thunder lizard list was 11 drops and i never had a problem. I think hunters of the heartland is too clutch into certain matchups to not use and we have excellent artefacts. Starborne lists need to be low drops because they generally aren't in a position to take the punch from some of the more aggressive lists out there. However, it all depends on your own list construction.
Ok, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I will go either full number of drops with Hunters of the Heartland and so on, or multiple battle regiment to reach only one or two drops. And because I play mostly coalesced, it will be with a high number of drops.
Is there an addendum to HotH that makes it be able to be taken just once? I always played as every battalion can be taken as many times as you have viable units to put in it. For instance, two Warlords. I never really used more than one HotH since I always considered to be a pothole filler with left-over units, but just curious.
Oh, good spot, I did not pay attention to that. So a single HotH indeed... In the GHB2021, on top of the page with the Ghur battalions, it is specifically written that these battalions can only be taken once. For core battalions (the ones of the core book) there is no such restriction, so you can take two warlord battalions etc.
In my meta everyone is either 1 drop or 12. If you can't be a 1 drop list like DoK or Dragons, its better to get all the artifacts and battalion perks you can to help.
in a meta like that theres a lot of value to being 6 drop. you would beat out all the 12s and get more perks then 1s.
yeah, basically if you don't have 1-3 drops, you shouldn't focus on reducing them. Better to accumulate bonuses and to adapt your deployment, being ready to play first turn. Which is basically the thing i always do.
